Hi gang

I've read about this test, but has anyone here gone through it? Just wondering what all Lyn should expect besides that of which I've read.

Ross,

I have had a renal scan where they used radioactive particles via IV for contrast. I think the diuretic one just has Lasix added to the IV during the scan to see how/if urine moves through the kidney.

The scan itself was no big deal. Since I have not had the one with Lasix, I can't address it specifically but I would guess she might be uncomfortable in having to pee and having to wait until the test is over. However, that is just a guess.

Please give Lynn my best and good luck with the scan.

Hi Ross,
Chloe had this done - along with other kidney tests when she kept developing UTI's as a toddler.
It's not really that bad at all - even Chloe wasn't particularly bothered by it. If it's the one I'm thinking of then it's the radioactive one - again, not what it sounds like! You don't have to wear all sorts of space type suits as protection etc. lol
They just put a little IV in and put the stuff down into the veins. Then a little while later they add the diuretics to make the dye pass through the kidneys into the bladder to get a clear picture of whats going on.
Chloe has no side effects and came home as soon as they were finished. We also got the results straight away as I asked the radiographer what he saw as he was doing it, so that was handy too.

Hope Lyn gets some positive news out of this test!!!

Judging by the pain she is still having, I don't look for positive news, but it should tell us whether the kidney is functioning and if so, how well. This will be what decides how extensive the surgery is going to be.

I was just wondering about the Lasix since it sounds like they really load you up. They might be better off scanning her on a toilet!

They didnt seem to load Clo up that much - it seemed to just be enough they put through to allow them to see what was going on - she wasn't complaining about bursting to go or anything - maybe shes just wierd though?!

I don't know about the test...but when is Lyn having it done..so we can add her to our Prayer list...that the test will come out with good news...Bonnie

I'm not even going to start trying to convince myself that the kidney is going to be saved. Her urine is clouding up as if the kidney is in the process of shutting down. I'll be just as happy if the problem can be removed and life, whatever it holds, can go on. Right now, it's a at a stand still and we are stuck in this unknowing of anything stage, which is driving us both insane. My 60 days in the hospital seemed like a long time and was, but just these last 2 weeks seems like an eternity to me.

Sometimes when things seem so bleak, and you are so tired out, it seems impossible to pray and believe that that prayer is heard. At times like this is when you can lean on your friends to pray and hang in there with you. We are here for you, Ross. You and Lyn are family.
