Tough Love vs. Spanking

Most of America's populace thinks it very improper to spank children, so I have tried other methods to control our kids when they have one of "those moments".

One that I found very effective is for me to just take the child for a car ride and talk.

They usually calm down and stop misbehaving after our little car ride together.

I've included the photo below of one of my sessions, with our son, in case you would like to use the technique.

Its very effective!

The thought sure crossed my mind alot, especially taking my 3 to Florida. I swear I was stopping the car every 8 miles to stop the fighting in the back seat.

You should have been along for the trips to Wisconsin (700 miles) with five kids, one poodle and one rabbit.
Funny thing, I feel rather nostalgic remembering those days.

Too funny.. We traveled a few times from Maine to Disney with 3 kids, the first time we hauled a pop up camper, we had never camped in our lives. The first time we stopped for the night it was pouring rain, what a sight that was setting up the camper!!! But I agree, it is a bit nostalgic. Now they are all dealing with their own little ones!!!!!

I don't think that it's funny. I'm an auto broker. Putting a screaming child on the hood of your car could scratch the paint, damage the hood and would decrease your gas mileage due to excess wind resistance. Screaming kid(s) -- that's what trunks are for.

(p.s. I have a delightful 15 yr. old daughter and neither my wife nor I would put her on the hood or in the trunk. Send her to away to an early college education? Maybe.

Would put a dent in car's resale value, too.

Suddenly, I remembered hearing, "Mommy! Marsha/Cathy/Nancy (your choice) just touched me! Make her stop!!" all the way from Dallas to Miami, Fla., in an International Harvester Travelall. There was lots of room on that hood! :D :D :D

Reminds me of an incident a friend related to me when his girls were about 6 & 8 years old. They were on a rather long car ride while on vacation and there was much squabbling in the back-seat. The older daughter cried out, "Daddy, make her stop! Danielle is looking out my window and it's mine not hers!"

Kids will be kids & adults are sometimes no better. :D
