I have been taking warfarin since my surgery this past August. It has been the 5mg tabs from Barr. At the beginning of the new year, my insurance company switched the way I need to get my meds now and I have to get thru Medcohealth an online company. My question is I just got my first order but the warfarin is manufactured by Taro. The shape of the pills looked different..anyway because of this am I to expect a difference in my INR due to the different companies or is this okay? I am sure this question has been asked before but I could not find a reference to it.

Thanks

As far as I know, only Barr and Taro make the generic equivalents. I would test to be sure that your not seeing a difference, but there shouldn't be any. Al Lodwick might be better suited to answer this one. I think he was saying that Barr ran tighter controls, but I could be wrong too.

The short answer is, no you should not see any difference.

Barr did have tighter controls but not enough to make any difference. The only point to that earlier discussion was that Barr's were no worse than Coumadin.

If your insurance company though that switching would cost them one trip to the emergency room due to the switch, they would insist that you not change.

Same story here...

AL - What can you tell us about TARO ?

'AL Capshaw'

They are an Israeli company. Isreal has national health care. Everyone in Israel was switched from Coumadin to Taro's warfarin. I never saw anything on the news about a run on Israeli hospitals for bleeding, so I guess they did OK.

I went from Coumadin to warafin made by Taro about 5 months ago. My INR has remained stable since the changeover. I actually like the Taro tablets better. They are easier to break in half.

My insurance company is Merck-Medco. They switched me to warafin manufactured by Taro from Coumadin. I saw no difference in my INR. I take a 4mg tab and a 5mg tab every day. I can change to two 4s or two 5s on any given day if I have to adjust to stay in my range of 3.0 to 4.0. Very seldom need to adjust.

Nancy - I've been doing fine, thank you. Getting ready to celebrate my 3rd anniversary the end of next month. I've had no real problems since the surgery.

I don't frequent the boards too much, although I should. I know how big a help it was for me pre- & post-op.
