Denver trip coming up -- need ideas!

I'll be in Denver CO the first weekend in June for an awards banquet (3 of my cats are winning annual awards). Friend and I will probably fly to DIA that Friday night (6/3) and want to do something fun early in the day Saturday before we have to return to the Holiday Inn conference center near DIA to get gussied up for the shindig that night.

I told Debra that we could forgo showing a cat Saturday/Sunday and use that time to have fun. Suggested going to Golden, Estes Park (town, not the big park), Castle Rock (shopping!). But I don't know how far any of these places are from DIA.

Any suggestions from those of you in the greater Denver area????

Will let you know. I remember a great restaurant near Loveland I think, on the highway between the interstate & Estes Park. My husband & I ate there in 1983 or so, have been back once since then.
