I'm new to the site and very thankful I found it. I'm going to have AVR end of the summer/early fall. I meet with a surgeon on june 30. I was wondering if anyone knows of good surgeons in the denver area? Thanks,

Paul

Paul,

I live in Highlands Ranch and had an AVR on May 27th at Porter Hospital. My surgeon was Dr. Myles Guber. He was recommended to me by several different resources and I in turn would highly recommend him. His associates with Colorado Cardiovascular Surgical Associates are Kessler and Hofer. My Cardiologist is Dr. Arthur Levene with South Denver Cardiology Associates whom I am also very pleased with.

I am 3 weeks post-op and feel great other than bouts of irregular heartbeat which I am told is normal for a while after surgery.

I agree with Pam that BCH is a great little community hospital. While she vouched for Dr. Matthew, I will vouch for his parner, Dr. Douthit. Douthit was trained under DeBakey, a pioneer in artificial heart transplantation and one of the Big Names in heart surgery. Douthit just happened to like the Boulder area, so here he is, along with his wife and five kids. :D My only hesitation with BCH is how equipped their facilities might be to handle big complications.

I also met with Dr. Kevin Miller, who seemed competent, but I don't have any experience with him outside of a consultation. However, he was kind (wise?) enough to send me to the Cleveland Clinic for my repair after he heard my circumstances.

My recommendation is to "interview" a few surgeons. You will begin to see differences among them and should be able to make an informed decision from there.

BTW, who are you meeting with on the 30th?

Hey Paul,
Welcome to this Great Family.
I had my surgery at Poudre Valley Hospital in Ft. Collins. The Cardiologists I see are Dr. Luckasen and Dr. Downes and the surgeon was Dr. Stanton, they are with the Heart Center of the Rockies. I have been very pleased with them. Give them a call and check them out.
Take Care
Dave

paul,

I second cgv above. I had avr and aortic root replacement in April 2002 at Porter's in denver. Porter's was great. My surgeon was also Myles Guber. Follow up daily from his practice after surgery was great. I did alot of research including talking with many doctor friends i have who inquired and I also interviewed surgeons. All is well three years later. The scar you almost cannot see. I have seen other scars that looked, well, like the laces on a football standing a quarter of an inch above the chest.

I also use South Denver Cardiology, and see Dr. Ira Dauber. A very impressive and complete practice.

Good luck.

Thanks

Thanks

Thats so great to hear. The surgeon I am meeting with is Dr. Gruber and I am a patient of Dr. Levene as well. It's so great to hear good things about him, it's quite comforting. Thank you so much for responding!

Paul

Another satisfied Levene patient here. Actually, he made my initial diagnosis ~12 years ago and has been my father's cardio for even longer. I live in phoenix now, so I haven't seen him in years, but I and my father both love him. You're in good hands.

Tim

thanks

thanks

If we would have more time to plan Mike's surgery, Dr. Gruber was one surgeon that was recommended to us. Mike had just started thinking about researching a little bit when WHAM - we were surprised to find a 6.5cm aneurysm during an angio. Needless to say, Dr. Matthew was recommended to us by our cardiologist, we met with him, did very minimal research on him and went with him four days later.

Good luck and keep us posted - how're you liking the heat????

Thanks for the info, and I can't stand the heat. I'm a winter type of guy. I'll keep you posted!
