Last Dec. 19th..I went in and had an old bridge removed..( 3 teeth involved)..It was a bridge put in over 10 years ago...and gums were looking bad above it.Dentist removed it and put in 3 false ones..wanting me to wait 8 weeks to come back for new bridge.(letting gums heal) Everything was great...I went back today..and was told by my dentist..That he was going to do some plastic surgery on my gums (after he took the false bridge out) this was after I had been numbed and unable to talk.. so, I spent 2 hours in the chair .3 takes for a perfect impression he wanted after he did the surgery on my gums..For my finally real ones. Am to go back in 4 weeks...My question..I premeded with the 2000 mg. this a.m....but, I'm wondering if I should take another Amox tonight..to be on the safe side..with all that work today?....I don't think it would hurt to take another one..I hometest..so..will check my INR in a few days...the only thing different than first visit in Dec. a little swelling above teeth. Dentist told me to rinse with very hot, salty water.I have pain pills but don't need them..Bonnie

Bonnie, I don't know what official recommendations would be but, speaking only for myself, if I had what you had done AND had extra Amoxicillin around, I would take it.

So sorry about you having to have all that work done. Are you very sore?

My dentist office called in 20 Amox's for me on Feb. 8th.. when his Nurse came to get me..She said, good Morning, Bonnie..Did you premed?..:D they are very aware that I have a mech valve.:) He has also gotten off my case about my not wanting to go off coumadin..In fact, he never mentioned it today..:p No pain, ect..but just wondering about 2 hours in chair.. I tried not to swallow any ****.:D ..... will take another one before I go to bed. Bonnie

Yikes, Bonnie!

Yikes, Bonnie!

Guess I can quit officially whining about Katie's now since you've gone and topped us! :D glad to hear things went well overall. Just my two cents, but I would do the extra antibiotic. We insisted and the dentist agreed............together we trumped our PC............that we do an extra week of amocillin just to be safe after Katie's little dental ordeal. I know, I know, that all the latest med stuff out there says not to overdo the antibiotics 'cuz of our creating the superbug, but what is this once going to hurt? That was my justification for Katie, anyway. Except for surgeries, Katie is rarely on antibiotics, so if it prevents BE when we have to do it once in a while, well...............survey says it was worth it. Much love. J.

I don't think that a bit of overuse of antibiotics by people with artificial valves are going to create a superbug - it's the overuse and misuse by all the folks who DON'T need them and use them incorrectly (especially by not taking full prescriptions) that cause the problem. Valvers are a pretty small minority.
