I am interested in having a dental implant to replace a tooth that was extracted 2 months ago. I was told by my cardiologist that I should do it only at the dental clinic of Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem because they know how to deal with people on coumadin and with mech valves. (I did have the tooth extracted there and there were no problems - bleeding stopped shortly with INR at 2.5 ).

I know that for any dental surgical procedure I take antibiotics 1 hour before, and I adjust my INR down to an acceptably low level (about 2.5 or a little below). These things present no problem for me.

My question is why do I need to do it only at a hospital dental clinic? Couldn't I do it with any dental surgeon of my choice. If bleeding should persist after a long time, I could always go to the hospital later.
