My boss is freaking out about the fact that next week I will be taking some "vacation" prior to the event to get my house in order - so to speak. I have kept the communication open since early April that things were happening where-by my projects may have to have to be transferrred to other resources other than me to do the work... Now that it is 4 days away from me taking off, he is acting like he didnt know a thing about it.

I have kept a diary and pretty much fed back to him the chonicle of events that have led up to this moment and the communcations I made on a weekly basis.

The emails from the company nurse, my requests for personal time, and listing the dates when events were known and communicated pretty much ended the conversation. It became clear to him that HE had not done any planning became evident.

My advice to all.... Keep a small diary. Mine has been on the back of my surgeons business card. Some people don't wish you well and will handily blame you for the failure of a project to save their own a**.

My advice would also be to get a Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) filled out. In the FMLA, you are also protected if you need to take sporadic leaves of abscesses ( a day here to see the doctor etc). This may make it harder for your boss to "let you go" if they are uncomfortable with the situation. Most HR people will not touch anyone who has a FMLA, especially when downsizing a company.
