It has been so helpful to me to find this board. There are so many practical details that you all have answers for and then there is the encouragement!

All office personnel have apparently returned from holiday vacations and I am scheduled for mitral valve repair (I hope) and maze on Monday, Jan. 19. So soon! I am really glad to have a date and can focus on what needs to be done by when. First, the Christmas decorations had to come down and the house cleaned. Nothing like a major surgery to get me moving on that.

I find myself treating this whole thing like a trip, or project. Usually, though, for trips I don't find myself in the lingerie department shopping for loose bras and button up jammies! I have great friends and a wonderful husband who are helping me get organized and make lists. Borrowing a recliner from one friend and relaxation tapes from another.

Thanks, again, for all of the help I have received - and will continue to receive.

Judy

and then you will give back that help to a newcomer.

We are standing by with you while you approach that mountain. Then we'll help you down the other side.

Judy,

That is soon. I didn't have much warning, either. I had just enough time to get things organized, but not too much time to worry.

Hi Judy,

It is soon but it means less time to fret too. I found the wait to be very difficult and at the end of the wait I had everything done but I didn't feel well enough to go out and enjoy the "free time".

I'm glad you found this board and look forward to spending some time with you as you prepare for your surgery and then recover from the same. Ann is right. Soon you will be one of the ones encouraging others as they begin their journey.

I found some jammies that look like a pretty sweat suit. I wore them to the store one day to sort of test the waters...:) , no one gave me a funny look so I've done it several times since. Someone told me one day that my outfit looked so comfortable. I told them that they felt just like jammies:) .

Hi Judy,
Your date will be here before you know it. Then you will be back home and recovering before yopu know it. Then you feel amazingly well before you know it. I am 5 weeks post op and really feely good. Does not mean the first few days are not a little tough, or that every day will be a winner, but for a lot of people, and I am sure for you too, that you will make it through fine and be on the road to recovery.

Surgery 01/12/04

Surgery 01/12/04

Well, here goes. We're gonna try this again.
My original surgery date was 12/29. I ended up with the flu on 12/28, so we had to reschedule. I have to be at the hospital at 5:00 AM tomorrow morning 01/12/04, and my surgery is schedules for 7:30 AM.
I've had the extra time to devote to my family and friends, and our small business. I don't care so much about the housework as the people. If I don't make it through this, I don't want to be known only as "her house was always so clean"! Heck, everyone knows me better than that!
Just had dinner tonight with my family & husband. My hubby's birthday is the 18th, and since I won't be able to, my mom made a nice early birthday dinner, so the family could spend it together.

I'd like to thank everyone for the helpful tips and encouragement I've received here at this wonderful website. Hopefully, I'll be able to let you know how I'm doing soon.
Thank you, and God Bless you all.

Val,

Just go through the motions tomorrow morning - put your mind in another place. That is what I did before my surgery. Soon you will find you are nine weeks out (which I am now!) - and you won't believe how fast the time has gone!!

The first two days after surgery I won't sugarcoat - they are kind of rough as you are drugged up and in pain, BUT they give you all the pain killers you want, so go for that. Just remember to get out of that bed as soon as they will allow you and get to walking. I kind of was hesitant about that in the hospital and the nurses and all were on me to get up out of bed, and once I really started to, I found they were right - you feel much better when you are up and moving!!!

You will be in all of our prayers tomorrow morning and our thoughts - that is ALSO another thing that got me through my surgery - having so many people thinking of me and praying for me - on this board and elsewhere.

God speed. Will be anxious to hear from your family on how great the surgery went and how well you are doing!! You are going to be just fine!!

Hi Val
I did it 5 weeks ago with the support and prayers of this fine group. You will make it through to the other side just fine because we will all be there with you. When you are recouparating the first few days afterwards just remember what everyon here will tell you. Every day gets better and better. And you know we will all be waiting for news and all be here for you as you climb over that mountain and get on the road to recovery. I'll say a special prayer and see you soon,
Steve

Val,

You will be in my thoughts and prayers. I hope that you are able to sleep tonight.
