Jack's daughter

Just wanted to update everybody that my dad made it through surgery! The nurses say he's doing well and stable. I'm a little nervous because he hasn't opened his eyes yet and responded to commands--he's about 8 hours out, but his surgeon wants to keep him intubated for about 2 days. Obviously he wasn't happy to hear that--maybe that's why he wants to sleep. The Dr. said his aneurysm was "ugly"--fatty, crumbly, etc. so he was happy about how surgery went, but leary of stroke potential. That's why I'm a little rattled. Now they started weaning some of his pain med and he has started flinching, moved arm. Our Dr. gave us a 2% risk of stroke, so I'm praying he doesn't fall in that category! Thanks for well wishes and prayers--any experience/feedback would be appreciated!

No experience or feedback, but I will keep you all in my prayers and look forward to the good news that he is off the vent soon.

What wonderful news that this part of the journey is over. My husband was intubated at least 30 hours past surgery so I understand your concern. You are a precious daughter and please remember to take care of yourself so you can continue to take care of your father.

My prayers are with you and your family.

As long as the nurses and Docs arent worried I dont think there is any cause for alarm...It must be so hard to watch a loved one recover from OHS...Well done on getting this far...take a moment to get some rest yourself, your Dad will be drugged up and sleeping/resting comfortably while he has the breathing-tube in.

I'm glad to hear your father is out of surgery and is doing good. Sometimes they just keep people on the ventilator as a precaution. Yes, there is often a small risk of a stroke, but just try to focus on the 98% of people that don't have them. Hopefully, your dad will continue with an uneventful recovery. My best wishes and prayers are with your father (and you too). If possible, try to relax and get some rest. ~Hugs~ Dawn-Marie

thats a big step behind both of you now. Take the little victories as they present themselve to you and your Dad. Sounds like he went through alot but he is in good shape overall. Get some rest if you can, it will do your mind just as much good as your body.

Best of luck !
