My family celebrated my dad's 80th birthday today -- 3 days early, since it was a weekend.

Am mentioning this because we did something that others may want to do also for a loved one's birthday.

Of course, we all gave Daddy gifts. But the one he treasured the most was a ring-binder notebook filled with recollections from all of us -- down to his cat, Millie!!!!!!!!!! -- and photos too.
He opened the notebook, read the cover and first page and was speechless. He smiled and said, "This is going to take quite a long time to read through."

I don't know what everyone wrote, but I wrote about his taking me for my first day of school (first grade, since Dallas TX schools didn't offer kindergarten in 1956), among other things.

One of my nieces had coordinated the notebook and she and her other aunt had printed off photos of various family members with my dad.

Just thought others might want to give a notebook of memories to a loved one, too.

Marsha, today was my moms 84th birthday and back home her friends and my dad miss her dearly.
She came up with our kids Monday and wanted to stay here sooooo bad
for my 2nd heart surgery.
Well some time ago the kids had an idea she will be here and put together an
album for her, such a great idea, such a beautiful job,you could see tears in her
eyes, she is so proud of the album and the kids reallydid a great job.
What a coincidence when i read your post.
Mom had a great birthday and enjoyed everyone here and for the terrible storm we have all my kids were here and great granchildren and SHE HAD A BLAST:):)
usually all her great friends get together and prepare a blast,so it was a special day,and i could accept the cancellation of my surgery to be with her.
I'm so excited as she plans to stay another week.:):) her and i don't usually
get to pajamma party this long with her at once.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUR DAD ALSO:):)

Thanks for a great idea, Marsha.
Maybe I can try this for Bob's mother's June birthday.

Just wanting to say Happy Birthday to your Daddy & wishing him many, many more! What a wonderful & thoughtful gift you & your siblings gave him of all your treasured memories put in writing for him to read! That is so very special Marsha! :)
