Holly, one of my nieces, lives in St. Louis. Her sister-in-law had been having problems with her pregnancy and had been ordered to bed in November (baby was due in February). OB-GYN had to do a cerclage to prevent a premature deliver. He undid the cerclage 1/14.

Dad delivered the baby at home about 12:30 a.m. today (1/15). A paramedic or EMT gave him instructions by phone. Baby & mom were whisked off to the hospital in an ambulance.

Baby daughter, mom and dad are doing fine. I haven't received photos yet, but I'm sure I will. My nephew-in-law has a HUGE extended family and since Holly has no siblings, they're surrogate sisters, brothers, cousins, etc., for her.

I wonder if Dad can bill insurance for a delivery charge??

My OB didn't deliver my daughter because he didn't get there in time. (20 minute labor - and we lived 5 minutes from the hospital). My husband got him to cut his fee. The Dr. tried to say that the fee was for the entire pregnancy. But my husband argued that also included delivery - which he didn't do.

Tell her to watch the hospital bill. Their practice is to bill L & D as a package, and the people in the billing office aren't always aware of which babies weren't delivered at the hospital.
