Sometimes when I take my Lasix, I start peeing within 15 minutes or so. Other times it seems like it takes a few hours for things to start up.

Does anyone else have this issue and does it indicate some type of problem (other than the annoyance of having to get up in the middle of the night to pee)?

Since I have a broken foot, I try to time my Lasix to require the shortest trip to the bathroom. It is fine if the Lasix works quickly but not if it doesn't.

Just curious as to whether others have delayed reaction to Lasix at times and what (if anything) you do.

Thanks.

Gina,
A dose of 40mg of lasix in the morning results in my first trip to the bathroom within 30 minutes time. I can generally rely on its effects being gone in about two hours.
When I have to take another 40 mg., I take it early afternoon (2-4pm) so I'm not up during the night.
I don't know if that helps or not.

Joe has erratic results too. The only thing I can think of is that he gets ascites from time to time, and I know that it hinders the absorption of Lasix.

It seems to me mysterious, just like CHF, and why there are flare-ups with that.

I take 80, in the morning. It takes about 2 hours to kick in (I think it depends on how much I've had to drink in th last 24 hours). Takes about 4 hours to do its thing. When I first started taking it seemed to work alot faster.

Hi Gina. This is my third day ever of 20 mg Lasix so I'm obviously going to be of little help. However. Living in the great Northwest, the Terrarium as we fondly put it somedays, I wonder some about the humidity and environmental effects on your response to the drug. When people from dry climates come here to visit, they often remark on how much they have to pee!! Our bodies are made up primarily of water. In the drier air, we retain. On wetter days, we shed the water. Just wondering if this might be having an influence.

I am the same way Gina...

I am the same way Gina...

Mine can take up to 3 hours to kick in...but when it does....LOOKOUT.....Usually mine really gets rid of the fluid, but like I said, most of the time it takes around 3 hours before I feel the effects of the Lasix. Harrybaby:eek:   :D

Hello!

My husband takes 120mg of lasix, three pills late morning, and three early evening.

He found taking the lasix first thing in the morning, when he was the most dry after a night of loosing body moisutre through breathing, perspiring, etc., was not as effective as taking it late morning for the first dose.

He takes his second dose after dinner, sometime between 7:00 and 9:00 PM. Given all of that he would agree that sometimes it works better than at other times.

I am not sure that helps, but best wishes in staying as dry as you can!

Thanks all. I guess I am not that unusual - good to know. I wish I could figure out a way to make it consistent but at least the Lasix is still working and I am only at 40mg/day.

When I was taking it I could virtually set the clock by it, an hour. My cardiologist took me off it when I last saw him, says it might have something to do with my lightheadedness, said it could be dehydration. I haven't been lightheaded since.

I gained some weight after stopping them, the fluid content of my body went up from about 28% to 35% and I got a bit concerned, but now it has corrected itself and I am back to 28%.

Gina, I take 80 mg. of Lasix at night. I also take Aldactone at night. Sometimes it takes a while to kick in...maybe up to two hours, and then sometimes it starts within 15 minutes. And then there are the nights that I just stay up in the family room instead of going to bed, because I run to the bathroom every 10 minutes. You think I'm kidding, but I'm not. I think it depends on how well I've watched (or not watched) my sodium intake that day or the day before. I'm afraid if I took my diuretics in the morning and had to go out, that I'd be having to stop by the side of the road (and that wouldn't be a pretty sight!). LINDA

Hi Gina, sorry about your foot! And I can add my Lasix experience along with the others (and yours). Sometimes it is 15 minutes, and sometimes 2 hours. It does make it hard to plan. If I know I am taking a car ride where there aren't a lot of rest stops available, I will sometimes wait until arrival at our destination to take the Lasix (40mg). But it must be very difficult for you with a broken foot when it does kick in!

Take care.

My son is on Lasix. Being that he's only 2 1/2 years old he's only on 1cc/day. I do notice that depending on how much he's drank overnight and in the morning before his dose will factor in on how soon the diaper fills up and as he says, he has "10 pounds of pee!!!" :D :D :D
