for ponygirlmom. this is from a Tabasco ad in 1976. I just discovered it's all over the internet. I've made it for years.
It fills my 3-qt pot right to the top, which is really too full.
The early slow cookers used a lower heat, so you might want to check it in 7-8 hours.

FAMILY DINNER CHICKEN SOUP
2 1/2 lb Chicken pieces
1 Onion -- chopped
3 Potatoes; peel -- dice
4 Carrots sliced
2 Stalks celery -- sliced
3 T Soy sauce
1 t Tabasco sauce
1 t Salt
3 1/2 c Water -- or to cover

Combine all ingredients in slow cooker.
Cook on "low" about 10 - 12 hours.

Serves: 6

Mary, did you use chicken with the skin on or off? I would think if you use it with skin, it would be too greasy. This sounds really good, may make it myself tonight.

Kim, it's skinless. I had grilled chicken Saturday night, so I still had some left that I hadn't cooked and thought about Debby's recipe. I might have more than the amount called for, but I like alot of chicken in my soup so it's ok.
And Jim, you're right. Everything tastes good that comes out of a crockpot.:)
I am feeling especially pleased that by 8am on a Monday morning, I've got dinner ready without doing anything else in the kitchen.;) Time to play!:p:p:p

Sounds good Debby! Think I'll try it as soon as the weaher cools down a little more here. It's still been in the mid 80's. Think the tabasco sauce would give it a great taste. :)

I LOVE everything I've ever made from a crock pot, and how easy most things are. The hardest part for me now that I am home all day is smelling how great it smells having to wait to eat it. (I'm an instant gratification type of person, not alot off patience)
When I used to have to be at work too bright and early I liked that you could cut everything up the night before and dump it in the pot in the morning and come home to dinner all ready.

Here is a site I find alot of good crockpot recipes http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/ she started with a blog trying to use her crockpot every day and ended up making a recipe book

OT but does anyone have/use one of the electric pressure cookers? I've been thinking about getting one, it looks like alot of crockpot recipes but on steroids so instead of taking hours they take minutes, even starting with frozen meat. The old stove top pressure cookers terrified me, but these seem much safer.

I made this today...it is delicious! I actually used a whole chicken and pulled it out after 4 hours and picked it apart. I know this has more calories than using skinless, boneless breasts, but it sure does add to the flavor.

Oh Lordy! I've used too much chicken and the pieces are too big! We're going to have to call it something besides chicken soup. It's more like chicken with soup on the side!:p:p I'm sure it will be tasty, and next time I'll use less chicken.
I'm glad yours turned out good, Kim.

Thanks for the website, Lyn. I use my crockpot several times a week, and I'm always looking for new recipes.
