Everything so far has gone the way everyone hoped for. He was given a 10% chance of the doctors being able to to "fix" his valve. He slid right in that 10%with them being able to fix his valve, no mechanical one, and NEVER having to open his chest, the whole procedure was done through his side. I just went in ICU to see him and by the doctors standards he looks good. He is still on the ventillator and pacemaker, but in a couple of hours they are hoping he is off of the ventillator and waking up. Will continue with more posts, but dont know whether everytime I post something am I suppose to start a new thread or continue posting under the same one?

Whooo Hooo!
Congrats on the 10%!
Here's hoping for a speedy recovery!

Congratulations, that is great news! Glad they could repair rather than replace.

WOW!! That's great that they were able to do a repair. Best wishes for a smooth, uneventful recovery.

Glad to hear about your dad! Thanks for the updates.

You could probably just keep posting updates on this thread for now--it's already in the post-surgery section.

That's outstanding!~ A repair is always better...and no sternotomy! I am so happy that the best case scenario became a reality! Congratulations and my continued prayers for a speedy, uneventful recovery!

That is totally fantastic!! I remember having an 80% chance of a repair and fearing horribly being one of the 20%. To be given a 10% chance and then get a repair is going to make his day when he wakes up! And to have it done through the side rather than a sternotomy. You can't get much better than that!

Wow - that is very fortunate. No cracking of the chest and a repair instead of a replacement. It does not get much better! Best of luck for an uneventful recovery!

Cp Doing Amazing

My dad was taken off the vent last night and was talking to us and even laughed one or two times. He is still on the pacemaker machine to regulate his heart because it is still a little low, but thats okay. When he was taken off the vent, I think everything went so diffrently (for the better) than what everyone, including him thought that he asked if we were not telling him something. He also said that he was not in as much pain as what he thought it was going to be in, so I guess that is good. When he was still on the vent my mother told him that his friends on the internet were posting him messages and he smiled!!!

Great to hear that your Dad is doing well, especially smiling and I know he probably feels so relieved. Tom says that when he comes out he will just be so thankful to be on the other side of the mountain. We're calling it Mt. Everest.

I hope your Dad has continued success with his recuperation.

Cp Out Of Icu And In Regular Room

My dad is doing good he wanted me to post something up saying that he was out of ICU and doing good. They have unplugged the pacemaker machine but the wires are still connected, but his heart rate is looking good so hopefully it will be completly removed soon. He is in good spirits and just relieved that he is on the other side of Mt. Everest with a couple more steps to go. I don't think he will feel like he is on the other side till he is back home. Again thank you all for your prayers and concern, as we hope that you all are doing well also. I am sure that HE will be posting soon, but we will keep the updates going!!!

Outstanding. Well you made it! Your at the peak just over the top of the mountain. How is the view? Welcome to YOUR NEW LIFE. :)
