Well not being a person of faith and trusting in science and evidence explains it, foolish me. Did it escape from there, possible, but either way it happened and regardless of how should not impact someone’s reluctance to get the vaccine. If this were 10-20 years ago, millions would be dead and world would be in financial ruins. And again, we all created and continue to fuel the Chinese monster.

That is a great incentive to get vaccinated. But, what I would really like to see is this test administered by employers to those who don't comply with the vaccine. Then let's see how much that motivates folks!

just to make clear to others Keith, having a spiritual side does not mean that you should ignore science and the two can co-exist. I ponder spiritual things but put my belief in the tangible, credible and evidential.
Science has brought us to where we are (and what you and I are communicating by) if it was all left to the type of people which spawns QAnon or AntiVaxx or vegan we'd all be stuffed.

50% of my adult family members have not been vaccinated. One of my grandaughters has not and her husband has been vaccinated (against his will). His employer gave him a choice, get vaccinated or come to work one hour early every day and be tested before clocking in. Funny how that worked

That's quite risky at this point, especially if they live in a state with a low level of vaccination.

That’s kind of where I’m at. While I would never go so far as to defend China’s human rights record, the idea of working on viruses in a lab doesn’t have to be for nefarious reasons. Asia’s had a rather long history of getting hit hard by viruses. SARS, bird flu, whatever. Stands to reason they’d be doing virus research.

Well the possible cover up. The other problem is some declaring it as a known fact WITH the clear accusation that it was leaked intentionally with nefarious purposes. If that's what happened I'm all for whatever can be done to the Chinese government but it's also likely the virus was accidentally leaked or it has natural origins and certain politicians wanted to blame the Chinese government for their own purposes.

I need to clarify my earlier post. My grandson-in-law is a retired "open-wheel" racing car driver who frequently has business at the Indy500 track in Indianapolis, IN. He is not an employee of the track but periodically has other business at the track. A few months ago the Track gave him the choice.......either get vaccinated or be tested EVERY time he came on the Indy500 property. He got vaccinated rather than get a swab shoved up his nose every time he had to go on their property.

so, having done my degree in pretty close to this area (microbes not viruses) I can say that your assumptions are pretty close. I see it like this;

1. a researcher was doing work on a strain of the virus which is often found in another mammal, but seldom (and only by genetic mutation) infects humans. Lets say it was the species which we call Flying Foxes (see Hendra Virus) which is common everywhere its warm and fruity because they breed like rats
2. lets say the researcher made a minor error in handling protocols (as happens eventually to the most fastidious worker) and due to a manipulation (or natural mutation) became either themselves or caused a co-woker to become patient zero.
3. due to the dense nature of their society, (my personal opnion vile) habits of spitting and uncovered coughing and extremely high rates of smoking and or compromised lungs it spread like fire in a kindling box.

The rest is history

oh, and I've been to pretty close to that district. My (not at that time yet) lovely Wife and I on a "people class" train from Beijing out to the district in 2005. It was an interesting trip facilitated by the fact that I can read and write traditional Chinese (or could then, haven't used it since going to Finland).

I'm pretty sure I'll never set foot in China again now (many reasons).

I find many of of these people complaining are hypocrites and don't even realize it. As they get older with their limited or nonexistent savings that they don't want anyone messing with their Medicare of Social Security, hell "SOCIAL" is in the darn name. These are again the same people that when the natural disaster comes through they complain about the government not doing enough. People need to pick a position and stick to it, you either want little or no government mandates which should come with no assistance as well or you you don't and accept what comes with government involvement.

Short version, you don' want a vaccine they pay the full costs of your care when you get sick from Covid and not cost me money indirectly via my raised insurance premiums and taxes. And as cruel as this sounds, if that bankrupts you and puts you on the street, that was your choice. Don't get the vaccine and not have a valid medical excuse and even refuse them at the hospital is fine with me. And finally for hospitals don't ask me for proof of vaccine unless you have mandated all your employees get the vaccine. We keep walking on eggshells trying to be nice to ignorant selfish people, time is up.

My caring for ignorant self centered people is over.
