I know a lot of things interact with coumadin and lopressor, and I was wondering if anyone knows if zicam for colds interacts or not? I asked the pharmacist but she said it's not in the computer but it's an herbal thing so she's not sure if it would even be listed. Naturally I called the number on the back of the box and they're closed until some time tomorrow and I'm feeling desperate.

I also used to enjoy echanacia to hold off colds that were just starting but I'm pretty sure I've heard rumor that it is not ok.

Does anyone have experience or knowledge about these remedies?

When I had a cold last December I went to the pharmacist and asked if I could take a 'cold' drug, the answer was a very definite no. The brand names in the UK will not necessarily be familiar to you, nor yours with us. Basically she said to forget them all, just take paracetamol for any raised temperature and that was about it, no decongestants, nothing to dry the cold up.

I used to take lonicera and forcythia (TCM) at the start of a cold, I have no idea whether with would be ok now as it is herbal, but I am assuming that as it is a single dose it might not be too bad.

No known interactions with Zicam, but Echinacea

Echinacea can affect the
platelets and prevent them
from forming a clot, causing
bleeding. Do not take
Echinacea while you are
taking warfarin.

Most of the standard cold medicines have no effect on warfarin.

Acetaminophen (Paracetamol) has a well-known interaction with warfarin. However, it is dose-related so that if you take less than 19 of the 500 mg doses in a 7 day period, nothing is likely to happen.
