This is the first cold season my wife is going through being on coumadin. (She had AVR Jan 2005, almost a year, hard to belive) She is a school teacher and prone to getting colds, the ones that is just enough to make you miserable but not miss a day of work usually. She is also on Lisinopril. What OTC products, specifically cough syrups, are coumadin friendly just to give her some relief to go on with her work day? Any experience with any OTC products?

thanks

C

The common cold remedies pose few problems with warfarin. A bigger problem would be if she did not feel like eating.

I have a cold, now..Last one last Spring..I found the bottle of Robitussin-CF..I took then..and am taking now..Doesn't bother my INR.:) Bonnie

I've thrown the list of no no's out and use whatever makes me feel good. It's another one of those things that the unknowing try to feed into your mind for little reason.

Colds and Teaching

I had AVR surgery in August and also am concerned about colds or illnesses that I might pick up at the school where I teach Computer Applications (those keyboards can become very contaminated!)
When I went back to work in Sept., I started using an OTC product called Airborne. You may have seen it advertised on TV as a product invented by an elementary school teacher. It has mega doses of some vitamins - especially C. I take it each morning during the week but not the weekend and so far I have not had the usual sniffles, sore throat, etc. that teachers are prone to. I'm not sure if any of the Vitamins would be an issue with Coumidin so you would have to check on that.
