My doctor just put me on Nexium for what seems to be acid reflux.
Is there any interaction between these drugs?
Thanks,
Rich

Rich:
Albert's been taking both drugs for three years now. Actually, they prescribed Nexium for him after he had an internal bleed. It seems that acid reflux caused some bleeding problems in the esophagus. It was pretty serious. They had to give him three units of blood. Since he's a stroke survivor, it certainly gave me a nasty scare when he fell and passed out.
Hope this helps you.

There used to be a $25. refund available from the maker of Nexium. If you can't locate it, let me know. We got $25. refunds four times a year for several years. Dr. recently changed him to Protonics because of the cost of Nexium. Even with the rebate, Nexium was considerable more.
Warm regards,
Blanche

I take the earlier version, Prilosec, with no interaction that I am aware of. My GI Doc wanted to put me on Nexium but when I told him that my co-pay would go up by 3.5X he agreed to continue with Prilosec.

As always, your Pharmacist is probably your best guide when it comes to drug interactions.

Thanks to all,
Blanche I hope Albert is doing OK, sounds like that was a very serious episode.
Blanche and Al,
As far as the cost I guess I'm reasonbly luck for now anyhow.
A three month supply of Nexium costs me $30 with my prescription plan.
Of all the drugs the doctor considered Nexium was the cheapest.
Because I use mail order for all of our prescriptions(and the list keeps growing),it is a little difficult to speak with a pharmacist, besides a lot of people here are smarter than a lot of those people. :)

Well after being on Nexium for the last several months, I am wondering if it has affected my INR.
With the paperwork for Nexium (and also Prilosec OTC) there is an interaction warning about Coumadin.
The last few months my INR has dropped ever so slightly, not enough to get upset about, but I am wondering if the Nexium caused it.
Most anti-biotics will raise my INR but with this stuff I didn't know what to expect.
In the meantime I made a slight adjustment and increased my weekly dosage by 10%.
My doctor thought 2.2 and 2.3 was OK but I don't agree.
One of my wife's sisters INR dropped to 1.2 several weeks ago, and she suffered a major stroke, recovery chances look slim at this point.
Apparently due to mis-management by her clinic in Florida.

I think there's a warning on most such meds (interact w/ coumadin); but if you need it and are going to take it long term (like forever) your dosage will be adjusted for it. I've been on pepcid since surgery (3 years), it's common after ohs.
