I guess it's not a problem since I haven't seen the topic addressed, but I'm curious...

Can/does Warfarin create risk of excess bleeding during menstration?

Sore subject, Barry. (no pun intended)

Females seems to think yes; guys, well, who knows what guys think!

absolutely!! i just posted a question to the women about a procedure i'm thinking of having done to eleviate the problem.. with out getting too personal for a guys taste, lets just say, hemmoraging big time, which results in enemia (not too mention all the other unpleasantries that come with hemmoraging) which in my case I ended up having a iron infusion (kinda like a blood transfusin or iron/plasma) which sent me to the ER via a allergic reaction.. the trick is to find a good Dr. most male drs dont' think it does affect, that something else is going on.. most female drs, believe it does contribute significantley to an already existing condition (which might night be so bad if for not being on coumadin)

sorry - you asked :)

I have been told the period changes I experienced after being on coumadin were just coincidental. I say hogwash. I was never anemic until I went on coumadin. I experienced much heavier flows. It got so bad I ended up with a hysterectomy - best decision I ever made (short of OHS).

I think the "official" word is that coumadin has no affect on periods but I think that was written by those will little or no experience.

Amen! so glad I started back up in this site.. good to know i'm not alone and it's not all in my head.

I'll have to chime in with a "yes" too. Mine are terrible. BTW, do you know we currently have three "monthly" threads going right now? Guess it's never too far from our minds, eh? Except, wait a minute, Barry started this one, didn't he. :D

I have not yet noticed a very big change.
I had about 5 periods since I am on Warfarin. I now feel extremly tired/ weak during menstruation. The overall loss of blood is the same. However the day 2 and 3 seem to be very heavy but by day 5 I am over it.

Menstration is God's way of reminding we men to be grateful that we're not women. Menstration to me seems like a choice between:
1. Cramps
2. Pregnancy
3. Menopause

Ran across this study which addresses the subject in general terms...

A study conducted by UCLA's Department of Psychiatry has revealed that the kind of face a woman finds attractive on a man can differ depending on where she is in her menstrual cycle. For example: If she is ovulating, she will be most attracted to a man with rugged and masculine features. However, if she is menstruating or menopausal, she will tend to be more attracted to a man with scissors lodged in his temple, sporting a rectally-implanted baseball bat while he is on fire. Further studies are expected.

Good one!

ROTFL Bob, some days that certainly is true. Great visual. Can't say I've ever wished death on anyone, though......

Trust me...being on Coumadin definitely changes a woman's period...and not for the better. Of course, I haven't done any scientific studies on this, but I have been on Coumadin since 1981.

YES! I also had a hysterectomy to take care of the problem. I'm not sure that surgery wasn't better than OHS. It sure didn't take as long to recover and it saved me a lot of money and mess each month.
