I need to know if any of you has developed a dry cough on only one side of your throat. This started about 6 weeks ago along with nasal drip. But the cough is very annoyning and ringing in the ears very loud out of my left ear mostly. Please let me know if you think this is at all related to my heart valve situation. Thanks

Coughing, ringing and clicking

Coughing, ringing and clicking

Hi Lisa,

My throat is dry and my ears ring too! Are we in the same boat or what?!

My dry throat is mostly a side-effect of Altace (Ace Inhibitor). I guess I'm used to it by now, but I need to be conscious of it when I'm around people so my hacking and coughing doesn't gross them out.

The ringing in my ears is an issue that I have done nothing about except try to ignore it. It can occasionally drive me crazy. I did not have ringing ears before surgery and didn't even notice it until approx. 2 years(!) post surgery. Weird! Combine the ringing in my ears and a "bounding pulse" and I feel like I'm in the middle of an NBA finals game.

I checked into the ringing deal on the internet and found the statistics quite alarming. http://www.ata.org/ I have yet to consult a physician about it. They can't do anything about the pulse, and I figure my chances of a solution on the ringing is low.

Quitting caffeineated products and magnesium supplements have helped. Drinking lots of water also seems to help.

Nevertheless, I feel pretty good. I guess I'm just supposed to keep on coughing, ringing and clicking.

Best regards,

I've still got ringing in the ears-mostly left. I was told that it could be from anesthesia after surgery. I told them it did that before surgery too and they blamed the aortic regurg. I don't think they know!!!!

I had ringing in the ears a few days after surgery because the laxics(sorry don't know how to spell it) pills weren't working so they gave me the laxics through IV. I really noticed the ringing and people were talking too loud because they pushed the laxics in the IV too fast, laxics through the IV should be a 5 minute push one of the nurses told me, but some of the nurses would do it in less than a minute and I would have lots of ringing in the ears. The same nurse that told me said that was one of the side effects. The ringing in the ears went away when I didn't have to take the laxics anymore. Don't know if this is related to your situation, but hope it helps.

I haven't had the surgery yet, but thanks for the thoughts and I will definately remember that when it comes to the surgery.

Dry Hacking Cough

Dry Hacking Cough

I had a dry hacking cough that drove me nuts just 4 weeks after my surgery (AVR on 4/12/02)(sounded like TB, or Smokers Hack - I don't smoke. Lasted over 2 weeks.) Got it again after my flu shot 10/08/02 and again it lasted for over two weeks.
The first time I got it I was worried about my AVR so I visited my PCP. He responded that everyone in town seems to be having it and gave me some prescription medicine. My wife had it also and while not wishing her any discomfort, that gave me some comfort that it was midly contagious since she is basically very healthy.
As far as I can tell it came from the back of the throat and I did not have any ringing ears. (I also understand that Zestril, a BP med, can do the same thing for you.)
Hope this note gives you a little reassurance.

Don,

It does thank you very much. That seems to be the message I am getting from everyone that it is probably from the BP Medication. Thanks for the response.
