Cough Medication

Whats the rule on over the counter cold medications while on Coumadin. I have come up with my first cold since starting Coumadin. Is it ok to take cough drops or syrup as long as no asprin is in them? I have a sore throat, coughing and feeling very tired. I will see my PCP on Monday. In the mean time this cough is getting on my nerves. I guess herb teas are out of the question.

Hi Veronica,
I believe Robitussin cough syrup is what they told me was safe.
You are right about anything that doesn't contain aspirin.
Be careful about over the counter cold medications, there are plenty that are safe for you but check with your pharmacist before you buy one.
I find that NICE lozenges help ease that sore throat.
Take care and get rid of that cold.
