I asked my doc why my pulse was so fast (steadily in the 90 bpm area) and even though for years I've been told "it is at the high end of normal" it still was bothersome; almost daily I would feel the hard beating of my heart. So in December he presribed 25 mg daily of Coreg. I consulted this site and read the stories of people saying how tired taking Coreg made them. It was with great trepidation that I started taking Coreg because I was already tired. Well, three months later here is the update:

I have not felt this good in years! There are no more hard poundings in my chest and while I have not had my bp and pulse measured yet I would bet anything it is nowhere near its previous levels. And the kicker is, I not only am not more fatigued but LESS fatigued than before. I don't want to sound like a Coreg commercial and I hope I didn't jinx myself by writing this out but, Damn, I wish I was prescribed this years ago.

So I wonder how can this be? How can others decry Coreg while I think it's great? Does anyone else have a similar experience? I would love to hear from anyone who can either relate or refute.

Thank you and take care.

Coreg is a wonderful medication. My husband is one who just cannot tolerate it. It causes him to retain fluid severely, and it also causes nausea and diarrhea.

Everyone's makeup is different, and some here have multiple problems, as does my husband. And that makes tolerance for some medications problematical.

I am happy for you that it has worked as promised. I wish my husband could have taken it.

Coreg has really helped my 65 yr old mitral valve replaced mom. Between Coreg and her ACE inhibitor-her blood pressure is lower than it has been in years. She definitely feels better with these meds than without. It took a bit to get her adjusted to them-but once there she has felt pretty good. She says her breathing is better too-I am sure the Lasix has helped there too. So glad Coreg is helping some people;) Deb

:) I don't want to jinx myself either but coreg has been a good medication for me. When I first started it, I had more heart enlargement than I do now. My mitral valve regurg has decreased as my heart enlargement decreased. I was on 25 mg toprol previous to coreg and now am on 25 mg coreg twice a day. I initially had some fatigue from it but my body now tolerates it very well. I asked my cardio if being on it for a long time would evenutally make it less effective and he said No.

So.......fingers crossed it continues to work so well for me. He tried me on lisinopril (ace inhibitor) but my potassium went up to unsafe levels and he had to stop it. Too bad; I wish I could tolerate it as it may have also aided in keeping the enlargement in check.

I hope you continue to find good tolerance and success with what I think to be a very good drug.....for some people.
