The race is over and I’m sure we can all raise a glass to our winner, Wise ... I don’t think anyone has caught him this week!! ... I know The Kentucky Flash personally and how much he enjoys good food so this is no small feat ... Congratulations my friend!!! ...

I’m down 3.0 pounds this week (aided by 100F plus temperatures this week:eek2:) which makes a total of 4.5 pounds loss for the race ...

Our numbers seem to be dwindling but I am committed to keep this crazy thread going ... I need the comradery and accountability ... the phrase, “where two or more” came to mind but I don’t want to sound sacrilegious but honestly a lot of mini SOS prayers have gone up when I felt the tug of the ice cream machine:redface2: ....

So, how did you do? ... Ready to race to the Throwdownd anniversary? ... Duffey is researching the date this band of losers first got together and we should have her official declaration soon ... Duffey, we re waiting ....

Now to those who read this thread and have not joined the Throwdown we encourage you to jump in and participate it the fun and fellowship ... no dues or fees ... no rules (except kindness) ... you don’t have to post your weight ... we are just a group, although small, that realize that proper weight makes for good heart health ... come and join us in our quest for better health and the ability to wear Speedo’s and Bikini’s :tongue2::wink2:

Red White & Blue Starting weight .... 215.5
Last Week .... 214.0
This Week .... 211.0
Race Stats: -4.5

Wow Cooker! You had quite a sprint to the finish line. A net loss of 4.5 pounds, even with an Alaskan cruise, is impressive. Congrats on the ice cream victory!

As far as my weight, I believe that I am down from last week but still can't weigh. May have to buy different scales.

I totally agree about the Throwdown and that it is an important part of my weight loss journey. Actually, it is the most important source of support for me. I absolutely believe that this merry band of losers helps a lot.

I did the research!
The first year of the Throwdown is no longer archived, but in a post dated 8-29-08, Cooker declared the Throwdown to be officially one year old. So if Cooker was correct, the Throwdown started on August 29, 2007.
I stayed the same as last week. Officially I'm down 2.5 pounds for the race to the RWB. Congrats to Wise for winning this one, and congrats to Cooker for taking second place.:smile2:
I totally agree that the Throwdown is a major help with weight loss and weight control. Even when I'm totally off the diet, I remember that I still need to check in with a weight.
We may be few at the moment, but we're consistent!:wink2:
How about racing to August 28? It's not too long, but we could call it the Founder's Day Contest, and be positioned for a longer race to one of the Fall holidays.
I'd like to take off another 10 pounds, so I'm ready to go!
Wise, I'm wondering about my scales too. I've got a set of WW's, and I'm getting some odd number when they first turn on. You think it's a battery issue?

Well, I should admit up front that I get on a scale about as often as I have heart valve replacements :biggrin2: so have never contributed here before, but I just happened to have poked my head in this morning and thought I might be able to contribute on the research side of things:

You know, as we all may one day regret, I think every word we've ever written here will be archived in some form from now until the end of time. :eek2: :) But the trick of course is finding it, and while I wasn't around back then, it appears to me that the Throwdown Subforum may have been created after your Throwdown group began? Only guessing, but I did a quick search another way and turned up these two threads (under Small Talk) which make it look like August 20, 2007 was your (un)official start-up date:

http://www.valvereplacement.org/forums/showthread.php?22072-Cookers-Weigh-In-Throw-Down-8-27-07&highlight=

So, IF I'm right, I guess the next question is, is it a good thing or a bad thing that I just shortened your next race? :confused2: Either way, hope this helps, and keep up the good works folks, and by the way, always enjoy the great humor when I do poke my head in.

You hit the nail right on the head, EL, with an accurate starting date for the Throwdown. Relying on Cooker's memory is always iffy, which I have learned over the years but seemed to forgot when I looked back in the Archives.:redface2:
Anyway, the thread links you supplied are a real trip down Memory Lane. Thank you, so much. As a reward, or punishment depending upon you look at it, I think you should be the Throwdown's official consultant. Bina is our official cheerleader, so creating a position is not unheard of. Besides, the Ref told me it was ok.:wink2:
So, to recap, the official starting date for the Weigh In/Throwdown was August 20, 2007 . . . . Founder's Day. And just as we've always thought, Superbob was right in the thick of the start-up. Krispy Kremes for both Chimp and Superhero!

Duffey, I second the nomination of El Consultant!

Thanks ElectLive for the links and information. Will be taking the trip to memory lane soon!

Duffey, I second the nomination of El Consultant!

Fortunately, I have enough professional consulting experience to know I better agree to this nomination fast...prior to any delineation of what this actually means, in other words. So I gladly accept...under the terms that no one has any idea what exactly I'm supposed to be doing or when I will be doing it. I will of course self-monitor my progress in meeting these goals. :biggrin2:

"EL Consultor"

Many thanks to EL Consultor for digging up the originating thread for weightloss; there is alot of good reading there and a nice
trip down memory lane.

Friday is predicted to bring us temps of over 90 degrees, I will be eating a small portion of ice cream.
Go team go !! Swim and eat salads.

Duffey and El, thanks for researching the Throwdown starting date ...I think a “Founder’s Day Sprint” is perfect ... Let’s start with the weight we posted for the RW&B and go to August 20th ...

We spent the day at the coast Thursday and I did succumb to a platter of fried seafood but managed to say no to potatoes and hush-puppies ... the temptation of ice cream and snow cones was there but I resisted ...:biggrin2:

Though small in numbers we will keep this going and perhaps when we meet at the next mini reunion we will need name tags for identification:thumbup:

Name tags for identification? More likely a Spanish translator. :wink2:Wise will be urging us to take the "short walk to the pancake house" in Spanish.:tongue2:

And by "El Consultor's" reply, I can tell he will fit in perfectly, when he choses to make an appearance!:smile2:

My starting weight to begin the Founder's Race is 148.5

My starting weight for the Founder's race is 139.5. Sigh.

With cruise pending....followed by multiple birthday celebrations next month.

Yep, El Consultador fits in nicely!

Duffey, I am still trying to figure out how to take a walk in Spanish. Once I figure that out, we can walk in Spanish all the way to the pancake house. Hey, we'll be new people by then, as will be evidenced by the aforementioned name tags.

Cooker, that sounds like fun. A good seafood platter is calling my name. The only problem is my options are quite different than yours were. I had my spinach salad with bacon and cheese for lunch instead.

Laurie, hang in there.

Oh yeah, almost forgot. I remembered to buy new batteries again, so I will try to weigh in the morning. We'll see if Cindy does. I believe that she has lost a little in the last couple of weeks.

Wise, I get the word Lo when my scales first come on (WW). I nudge them again, and they then go to the zero starting mark like they should. Are your scales doing something similar?

That is exactly what they are doing! I have moved them, nudged them, and still get Lo. I'll try the battery again, but if it isn't that I guess I will have to sit them in the hot seat and give them a good talking to..hehe.

Sounds like they have a death chip installed. That way you have to buy new ones. I think there may be a plot:eek2:

Death chip, Chimp?:rolleyes2:

Wise, if you try the battery, let me know if it disarms the death chip.:tongue2:

LOL! Death chip disarmed! Yes, it is the battery. All you need is a new 9V battery. I guess the last one I put in was already getting old.

Actually I looked the scale model (WW43) up on the internet. It is made by Conair. "Lo" indicates low battery. You would think they could spell out "low." I think someone who texts heavily must have programmed the scale.

You would think so but maybe they thought if it spelled out "low" some might think they had lost enough weight:biggrin2:

Forget to mention that I weighed to verify the operation of the scale.

This morning at approximately 6:30 I weighed 183.2. That is after oven baked beer battered fish with macaroni and cheese for dinner last night. So, I'm happy.

That makes my total loss from the start of the Race to RWB to be 10.4.

So, my starting weight for the Founders' Race is 183.2.

I'm laying down the gauntlet and predicting my victory in the Founders' Race. Who wants to try to beat me? hehehe
