Greetings Losers!!! Or in my case Gainers!! Just been a tough week and I have eaten whatever the hell I wanted whenever the hell I wanted it.... pardon the language but that's the way I feel about it this morning so I guess I should say whatever the hell I want to ... I would use one of the smileys or frownys but they don't seem to be working either....

I'm really not that upset but I'm just tired of dieting and now DW wants to put us on WW..... I'm still down a net 4 pounds for the STLD so it's not a total fiasco at this point!!! How did your week go? Any big news with anyone? .

2014 Starting Weight: 231
2014 STLD Starting Weight: 235
Today's Weight: 231

I had to check my calendar -- if today was Friday, I'm way behind at work! Whew, still Thursday, and still behind, but with a chance to catch up some of it.

I'll have to strike a new benchmark regarding weight. I seem to be at around the same plateau as last spring - hovering around the upper 150's, with a target of the mid 150's. Not sure what to do next, as I've ramped up my walking for the summer but can't seem to drop the pound or three I want to.

Oh, well - it could always be worse.

Rejoined Weight Watchers a week ago, and Friday is my weigh-in today, so I think I will officially weigh in for TD tomorrow, too. I know from sneak peeks that I have lost several pounds, but we all know that's quick blubber weight and the real test will come when trying to eke out a pound a week loss. I missed the discipline and routine of WW so am glad to be back. PT is helping, too, but it ends Monday and I need to find a way to keep some sort of gym routine going. So anyway, my official report will be on Fridays to mesh with WW weight tracking day.

Good morning, Cooker! It's a new day, the sun's shining in South Carolina, and your darling wife is willing to rejoin WW with you. It all sounds positive to me!
Morning, Steve, glad to see you posting this morning, and a big round of applause for Superbob's rejoining WW.
I stayed the same for the week, but I am motivated to start pushing for a loss every week. For the first time in memory, my blood work showed some numbers out of whack. It's possible it has to do with being almost continually on the low side of dehydration due to the diuretic I take for fluid retention. But my triglycerides rose by over a hundred points since last year and my blood sugar is sitting right on 100. I motivate easily so I'm ready to get with, and stick with, the program.

Duffey, if my blood sugar was sitting on 100, I would deem it low! Watch those "tris" though; I know you will.

As for me, I've been a good boy for a whole week, so when I spotted a cranberry-orange scone (rare for around here; used to be plentiful in Blue Ridge) I ordered one, heated up, to go with my Starbucks skim latte. Savored every bite. WW tracker now has let me know what an indulgence it was; however, I had the splurge points, so all is okay.

Joining in here becasue you mention blood sugar and trigs. I'm diabetic - Type 2 but I am not overweight, never have been, I'm actually underweight. Anyway - a blood sugar of 100, is that a reading two hours after a typical meal or a fasting number ? Either way it is fairly typical. If you consider that low, Superbob, then what is your blood sugar !? I would consider a two hour post meal number of 100 pretty good for me, my two hour post meal number ranges from 100 to 130, that's with vitually no carbs and meds. Knowing a fair amount about blood sugar, a perfectly normal reading is actually around 85, that is both fasting or two hour post prandial.

High trigs are due to a diet high in carbohydrates and are a dead giveaway of the amount of carb you're eating. It's high trigs which lead to heart disease and inflammation, so it's a really good idea to get them down. I eat an extremely low carb diet (because of my diabetes) and my trigs are currently 44 which I know is good and safe.

Thanks for joining us Paleogirl! I've been tracking my blood sugar readings for the past month (part of something Medicare now requires for ordering testing supplies) and I have readings mostly in the low 100s -- 110, 120, 130, fasting or non-fasting. One as low as 73 (and when it gets that low, I feel shaky). I think optimal glucose readings may vary somewhat from person to person, depending on body type, metabolism, sex, etc. Just my theory. Anyway my A1C stays around 6.5 -- so that is not alarming. (Lower than 7 used to be the marker, til they lowered it rather arbitrarily to 6.) My tricyclerides have always been in range, usually right around 100, no matter what kind of diet I'm eating. I think genetics have a lot to do with your lipid readings -- it's not all in what you eat. Great to have your perspective.

Just as an addendum, I found this handy thumbnail sketch from ABC of blood sugar readings that are dangerously low or dangerously high. I seem to stay pretty consistently day and night in the low 100s -- only very rarely have I had a reading as high as 200, and that's after doing something very stupid like devouring a berry pie. Anyway, here's the ABC take I found….

I think it's always best to have blood sugar readings in the range they mention in that ABC news link you sent, if your readings go out of that as long as they come back within range fairly quickly then all is usually good. My readings are scewed well by diabetes, diet and meds, if I ate a berry pie heaven knows what they'd be !

Today was my first weekly weigh-in with renewal of Weight Watchers. Have lost 5.5 pounds. Now we all know that's the easy weight loss that comes after you have gotten off plan, outta control. Not a sustainable rate -- 1 or 2 a week is more like a reasonable goal. That said, I am going to work on staying the course now. Paleogirl, it was about 10 years ago that we bought a homemade berry pie at a farmer's market in Northern Virginia, and I wound up eating most of it -- most sugary thing I've ever tasted. Just about put me in emergency room. Never again. Now if enjoying a dessert as an occasional treat, just do a small slice, eaten slowly. Long-timers here know I love scones -- but allow myself one with coffee only once in a while as a reward.

Today I weigh 181.9. That's up 2.4 from my starting point for this stretch. However, this week I have done fairly well even with a celebratory meal for a friend's birthday. I want to get back to counting points. I dropped off doing that because I was eating so differently and the doc said don't stress out over the calories and such for now.

Very interesting thread this week. Good luck Cooker, Sherry and SB on renewing with WW. Good luck Duffey getting your tris back in line. Hi Steve. I understand about being vertically and its weight challenges! Welcome paleogirl!

Great going Bob!!! 5.5 is 5.5 anyway you look at it!! I'm actually a bit lower today than yesterday when I started the thread but I will save that up for next week's thread ... found great apples in the mountains yesterday so I'll be trying to dream of pies and cobblers while I feast on cold Honey Crisp apples!!!

Day one of WW went pretty well but I did not eat anywhere near all my points which I know is a no-no. My eating seems to be schedule driven. I think maybe when late dinning is a necessity fruit should be my menu. The house is full of peaches, pears and apples. I checked my calendar and my yearly with my PCP is not until October so maybe I can get an atta-boy instead of an aw-%#@$.

Glad you've rejoined WW!

Superbob is again rescuing Duffey from dreaded position of being last to post many hours or even days ago.

Mr. Chimp, which form of WW are you using? You going to the meetings? I've found the WW Online for Men works pretty well for me.

Not formally joining WW but have all the books from years gone past and following the old points system... It's all about changing my habits and eating right portions and for me changing some of what I eat. With all the fresh fruit around it's easy to sub them for sweets but the real test is the holidays and all of the sugary treats that I love so much.... Maybe I will have had a psychic change by then..... ROFL
