I hope this week finds all Throwdowners doing well. I have been crazy busy and let the diet go for a few days so I'm up 2 pounds this week but I ain't complaining. I really need to find some time for exercise but it's not happening just thinking about it. I need to get off my ass and get walking.

So, how is your plan going? Losing any? Moving any? Come on ya'll I need some inspiration!!!!

2014 Starting Weight: 231
2014 STLD Starting Weight: 235
Today's Weight: 228.25

I'm at the same weight this week. I allowed myself to sneak in sugar here and there and I am reaping the "benefits" of sluggishness and not feeling as good. I'm not concerned about the so-called diabetes threat (pre diabetes) that my docs of recent years have thrown at me, but I am concerned that my sugar addiction (hello my name is...) could keep me from feeling the best possible. Starting again today with only Stevia as a sweetener, a taste to which I've adjusted.

Having a great week, full of motivation, everyone. Good going Duffey!!! What works for you on a typical week when you've lost? I know it's not eating beef.

Hey, gang, Can I come visit?

I've been really, really bad - haven't been around these parts for months.

It being summer, I've been much more active, but haven't been able to lose those last few pounds I'm carrying. Still just under 160 (on a 5'8' frame, that's at the top of the "healthy" BMI scale), but I think a bit more of it has moved to the "muscle" category. I'm still walking a lot - some days walking 3 or 4 miles in addition to my AM free weight and PM gym romps, so I feel pretty well. Just stagnant on the weight numbers.

Had a pacemaker checkup at the end of July, and we changed some of its operating parameters, so will see how that affects me. It now should be in operation less of the time, allowing my natural pacing mechanism to take over more of the work. Felt funny at first, but I think I'm getting used to it.

Hope everyone is having a great summer. I'll try to get back here more often.

Hey Steve, glad you stopped by! It's great that you've been able to get more exercise in over the summer months. I don't know about northern Illinois, but we've had a beautiful summer south of you.
Wise, I've tried to stay more active around the house. I set a goal each day for a housekeeping chore that I want to get down. Closets cleaned out, kitchen cabinets reorganized, etc. It provides a little more physical activity, keeps me too busy to snack, and my mood is more upbeat since I feel like I've accomplished something.
By the way, where's our resident super hero? Superbob, we need a fly-by!

Landed briefly. Been getting some terrific workouts in PT -- may help back marginally. Back to ortho Monday; PT may be close to end. Weight loss strategy in limbo -- count me out of the Labor Day competition. Trying to decide my best use of limited funds: buy new scales (I must keep busting the ones I have b/c I am fat), rejoin Weight Watchers, or rejoin YMCA and ask the fitness folks to train me on machines most like those great back-stretching ones at PT (don't think I can afford a personal trainer, unless she is a gorgeous blonde)….So that's it -- as noted on my blog, Superdawg and I keep walking through the humid summer but are looking forward to fall. Cheerio…..

Edit update: Interesting. I did this post this morning, yet the home page still shows Duffey's post as the most recent one. More new vr-org adjustment going on?
Just updating to say I sound a new set of scales that also gives you your BMI (approximate of course), and some other data. I also am pretty sure I will join a gym for back-stretching machines and such -- and a year-round pool. Am getting motivated. Maybe will rejoin WW, too, to add a little more discipline to frustration of trying to eat right in a households of elders who don't feel like cooking much. Anyway, I will keep posting on what's up (or down) with me, but may wait til after Labor Day to resume posting weights.

Best to all you svelte folks. : )

I am posting again as a test just to see if Duffey is no longer hanging out there as the last one to post. I posted one after her last one but the Forum front page doesn't indicate that.

Thanks Superbob for having my back, well maybe my front since I'm still showing as the last post on the Forum front page. Not sure what the problem is, but I noticed the same issue last week. Any chance you'd share more info about your scales? I've had trouble with mine ever since I bought them.

Sure can -- and I hope this post takes you off the hook. I went into Target thinking I really didn't want to invest in another set of scales. But I found for about $25 (about half what I expected) a digital Weight Watchers scale made by Conair with a Lithium battery included. You program in data about yourself (height, age, etc), and set it up, and it gives you not only your weight but your body fat %, body water %, and BMI. All those must be rough approximations, but anyway they are another way to (hopefully) see some progress. It's a Glass Body Analysis Scale -- you step on a glass platform -- pretty cool. And it has a 400-pound capacity, so it can handle even Mr. SuperBlob. Hopefully I won't get angry and bust the glass -- my first reaction is that it's the niftiest set of scales I've ever had --- and amazingly inexpensive compared to some I've seen. www.conair.com

We have one of those glass platform scales, too, SB. It works OK, but I do notice sometimes a different reading depending upon whether the scale is on a ceramic tile floor or hardwood. You would think not, but it does. Not sure if it is just inconsistent, as the differences are usually like 0.2 lb, but it lessens my confidence in the numbers.

At least it is better than the old mechanical scales and doesn't take up as much room as the "doctor's office" beam balance scales. . .

Thanks, Steve. I have had some scales that have varied by pounds even when you weigh on the same surface. We'll see how these do, but at least they give the feeling of a reasonable degree of accuracy. I believe they recommend a tile surface and that's what I use.

I've learned that for $40 a month after I finish PT next week, I can continue to use the equipment at the nice physical therapy facility just 4 minutes from my house. I think I am going to do this. I can feel how working on those machines is stretching out my back and making it stronger. True, they don't have a swimming pool, which would be nice, but it's a long haul to an indoor pool plus I can use the community outdoors one well into October.

This, plus Weight Watchers may get me going in the right direction again.

Of course, Superdawg won't be denied her daily walk -- though today with heat index topping 100F, it's a challenge. May walk some as old Sol is going down.

Scales for me at my current weight just show a trend... I really think my weight fluctuates as much as it does day to day ... I'm really trying only to weight once a week...

I always attribute the day-to-day fluctuations to fluid retention, driven by the differing sodium content of the food I've eaten each day. My cardio has me monitoring daily weight, with the instruction that if my weight fluctuates by more than 3-4 pounds in a day, I should call him, as that may indicate the need for short-term increase in diuretics. Fortunately, in the 3 1/2 years since surgery, I haven't had to call.

I have glass WW scales too. I know it will measure BMI but I have always assumed for me it is TMI...(only a joke). Anyway, they do vary depending on the type of surface. I have found that they are best on tile as they say SB. Anyway, it helps if your floor is even.

Duffey, an even better recommendation that I can give for something good at Luckys is their own bacon. I get the house made nitrate free bacon. The best bacon I have ever eaten, OMG. Just had some for breakfast.
