Greetings from Chimpville!! I have had a good week filled with fresh fruit cobblers and a milk shake or two for good measure. I really am weight conscious but I can't seem to turn down the fresh bakes sweet treats from Mrs. Chimp's kitchen!! We have fresh blueberries in the yard that are only a pick away from a pie:biggrin2: Doctors appointments and work have interfered with my walks but I will try to get back on track ( no promises :tongue2: ).

How has your week gone? I hope all are well and managing to shed a pound or two. As long as we don't give up there is a chance!!! Have a great week!

2013 Starting Weight: 231
Last Weigh In : 227.0
Todays Weight: 231.0
YTD: 0.0

Wow, fresh blueberry pie is something that even Superbob, with all of his superpower, could not resist! :tongue2: It is a seasonal delight -- enjoy! (Yeah, in moderation and all that...) :wink2:

Superbob weighs in this morning at exactly last week's weight -- still down almost 8 for the year, so think will go with that instead of hoping for a tiny change tomorrow morning.

Got a very good report from ortho on my bionic knee yesterday, but have been having some off-and-on tooth or gum sensitivity and slight pain issues since last weekend, so going to see dentist this morning. I am not really supposed to have heavy-duty dental work so soon after the surgery, so I am hoping he will just be sure there's no infection, maybe do something minor and temporary, and put off any bigger stuff til fall.

No matter what he does, i think I will reward myself with blueberry pancakes afterwards, thanks to the power of suggestion from The Chimp. :biggrin2:

Well, I'm watching my intake, trying to get rid of the Lbs put on by eating blueberry pancakes LAST WEEK.

Next week's challenge will be to sit through a 3 day seminar while avoiding the insane goodies provided by the hosting hotel, while also avoiding freezing to death in the excess air conditioning. It may be 95 or 100 outside. WHY do businesses insist on blasting the A/C at 68 degrees????

Well, Laurie, I'd bet that they blast the air conditioning because they would rather you don a sweater if you're cold than to have people randomly shedding clothing if it is too warm. Remember, the vast majority of us shouldn't be seen without proper clothing. . .

It has been a week of regaining control after being away last weekend. Wish I could get away more often, but this year my vacation time is pretty much spoken for, so not much left for spontaneous road trips. We might get away once or twice more, but they will be short trips. The big stuff is our visit in late summer to go see our daughter and son-in-law in Massachusetts, then in December we try to go somewhere warm for a week before all the rates hit the roof in the "high season."

So, the numbers:

Start of the year: 164.6
Last week: 157.2
This week: 157.0

YTD: -7.6

I seem to be slowing down. Hope I can keep up the trend and get to mid-150's before the warm weather ends. That way, maybe I can stay in the 150's all winter, too.

Keep up the great work, throwdowners! We ARE making progress, even if slowly.

Good job, Steve, Laurie, Bob and Chimp!
Hoping to shed a pound I waited until this morning to post my weight. I should have gone with yesterday's weight since it was a little better. Oh well, live and learn.

2013 Starting Weight: 151.5
Last Weigh In: 147.5
Today's Weight: 148.5
YTD: 3 pounds

Humidity has soared back to oppressive level after all-too-brief respite. I am more than ready for fall, but that's a ways off, I know.

Son of Superbob took us to a huge buffet last night. I managed to limit myself to two small plates of seafood and prime rib, and one dessert plate -- strawberry cake and a tiny slice of carrot cake.

Think I was a pretty good boy. Lots of protein, and a little sugar treat. :wink2:

Weekends can be tough. We ate out all weekend, but worked a lot in the house to make up for it. This morning, unofficially, I am down a fraction. I won't "claim" it until the end of the week, as I bet it is just changing hydration levels.

Bob - You're entitled to a treat now and then. It is the long haul that we're concerned with, and you're still doing fine there. Keep it up and you will hit target, I'm sure.

Really Mary ... you had to say chocolates .... hi ho hi ho it's to the store I go:tongue2:

It is amazing how much of a health food dark chocolate is. Anti-oxidants and all that jazz. Seriously. I was inspired to buy a big bar -- but I guess the idea is you eat just maybe 2 small squares a day. Well, the problem is that if I have a chocolate bar, I eat the whole thing before day's end, and the calorie total is very high. Sigh. Plus there's the sugar thing. Sigh. So I haven't been buying any more chocolate bars.

Good for you Bob. I passed up the chocolate too. I did have a small serving of peach cobbler. You know it is the duty of a good husband to appreciate his DW's baking:biggrin2:

Morning all from down under, I haven't said hello in ages!

My tip for next week, or this week, actually for ALL weeks - get your families to HELP with your health and weight loss goals, not HINDER them! Seriously, I don't get it - these people who love you watched you go through a very scary heart-related experience and now they seem to be driving you towards another one by feeding you rubbish.

Pies and cobblers and buffets are rubbish. Weight loss is 80% diet and 20% exercise and from what I see above, none of you seem to be getting anywhere concrete with your weight loss goals - 3-8 lbs in seven months isn't much of a loss.

Cooker, ask your wife to stop baking and instead go for a walk or bike ride with you. Superbob, tell your family that buffets are 'out of bounds'. (Don't these people want you to be around for a lot more years??) Instead of organising your social life around food, organise get-togethers in the park with frisbees, or go for walks with your mates.

Rant and tough love session over for today. :) Hope you're all enjoying summer, it's cold down here!

I love you Ski Girl (speaking platonically, of course)....:wink2: It's great to see you posting here again today. I hope you will post regularly.

Now, in defense, we only go to a buffet once in a while -- almost always because my son invites us along. The good thing about a buffet is that you can select what you want -- one of the best ones has a huge salad bar. And you can select broiled seafood instead of the fried variety. At the dessert bar, there are plenty of fresh fruit selections. Yes, I usually add a small treat like a small slice of carrot cake -- but life is too short to deprive yourself of all such goodies. Moderation in all things. When I'm doing a little dessert and can get no-sugar-added, I always do.

As for cobblers when peaches and blueberries are in season, Cooker and I live in the great American South, where such delectations are a way of life. At least we're not out hitting the moonshine. :p Asking a Southerner to go without cobbler would be like asking a New Yorker to go without bagels. :D

Keep up your posts, Ski Girl -- scold us, sass us, I love it -- who knows, we might even be affected by your no-doubt-excellent advice.

PS: Took the Missus to her new doc up in Little River this morning, then had lunch at this most delightful of Southern eateries, Mama Jean's - "foods like yo' Mama used to cook." I had BBQ chicken, collard greens, broccoli with cheese, and, yes, some fine peach cobbler:

Do you not have places like this Down Under, Ski Girl? If not, that's a pity. : )

P.S.S.: Be sure to watch the commercial on the Mama Jean's site! : )

Well, well, well ... a pop in and a hand slap ... If you think we are unaware of what it takes to lose weight you are mistaken ... we here are very aware ... it will be a cold day in hell before this southern boy gives up any seasonal delight ...

I will not post the response that initially came to mind as I have had my evening cobbler (peach) and it has calmed the savage beast ...

We never go to buffets or brunches since my surgery, but i am skinny as a rake, I just don't like all the germs....LOL

Anyway, my darling daughter invited hubby out to brunch on Sunday and they had a fabulous time. He ate like a beast and had fun. Of course, when he got home there was
no lunch and only a salad based dinner, so it all worked out okay for him. Poached fish the next day for dinner with brown rice and many veggies. Somebody has got to keep
hubby in check and that somebody is ME. :) Hey, we have had gorgeous peaches the past couple of weeks, but no cobbler has been made, that is sad, isn't it......but we were
finishing up some banana bread. All in moderation is a good way of life !!
