Greetings Throwdowners:thumbup: ... I hope this finds everyone doing well!! I have managed to shed a few more pounds this week. I attribute this to diet and diet alone. I have had virtually NO sweets and have melded the Cabbage Soup Diet and WW together to what I believe to be the great panacea of all diets/dieters:biggrin2::tongue2:. Don't know abut all that but it's working for TheChimp. Down 3.75 this week. I'm working a lot so I have not exercised this week and don't see much chance of it this week.... maybe next week:rolleyes2:

How are you doing? I was glad to see the good reports from SB and mbeard. Mbeard I did not know about your daughter's melanoma, I will put her on my prayer list.

2014 Starting weight: 231
Last week: 226.50
This Week: 222.75

Definitely praying also for mbeard's daughter re the melanoma.

Had a good 6-month's appointment with my GP yesterday afternoon -- then went to Mended Hearts night at Myrtle Beach Pelicans, and it was Weiner Wednesday -- $1 Hebrew National hot dogs! Okay I ate two of them -- and enjoyed every bite! Years ago, I probably would have chowed down on a half-dozen of them. Come'on, I deserved two of them - can I hear a "Heck yes!" (Or whatever "redneck woman"/St. Louis Cardinals fan Gretchen Wilson (love her!) says other than heck :tongue2: It was a fun night at the ol' ballpark. Cool sea breezes, fast moving clouds dancing with the moon, and the home team won (we have a great team here this season, Class A farm of the Texas Rangers)…..

Weight tentatively looks about the same this week, but will officially weigh tomorrow to see if Fitness Friday yields better results than Weiner Wednesday.:wink2:

Had a good consult with doc about me getting serious again about type II testing -- she's ordering me some new testing supplies. My A1C is still okay (7.2), but I would like it lower. Working on that should improve diet, and hopefully Throwdown/WW numbers. Also, the doc let me experiment with dropping simvastatin the past six months because my cholesterol/tricylceride numbers were so good. But (although still in the normal range), they went up 33% over the past six months! :eek2:Because I DO NOT want that trend to continue, I suggested I go back on the simvastatin, and she said okay but let her know if I experience muscle aches. I like that she's so open to discussion about these things, and even going off some meds if it's possible you don't need them.

Okay, I have rambled a lot -- sorry. Hope all Throwdowners have a great weekend and week!

Superbob

P.S. -- Big congrats to The Chimp, who is an inspiration!

Duffey ... I wouldn't weigh either!!! I had McDonald's for lunch and Mexican for dinner yesterday and there's NO WAY I'm getting on the scales for a day or two or three :rolleyes2:

Speaking of scales, maybe I need a mental health break from them, too.:frown2:

Just now got on the digital scales, and weight number was quite different each time I stepped on. Frustrating. A quick trip to Google yields info that low battery may be the cause. So I used my old spring scales, and they roughly show me about 3 pounds from target zone for the year, and down 1 for the week. But that is only approximate.

Guess I should change the batteries and face the music. :eek2:

I don't know how far along I should be? I am 11 weeks AVR 49 yrs old, I have been walking and now riding my bike, today I rode a measured 5k in 14 minutes and wasn't huffing & puffing. I don't know if I should be able to go farther or faster? I think I could go farther for sure.

My totally non-expert opinion is that you are doing great. I don't think you should push right now til you are huffing and puffing. Personally, I would be a little cautious on bike riding til I was 100% sure the sternum had fully healed. But in any event I would check with my doctors. Did you take Cardiac Rehab? The CR nurses are a great source of information. As far as farther or faster, you really ought to rely on medical wisdom, not just whatever suggestions (however good they may be) you will get here. But by all means we welcome the discussion of all heart-related questions (our own on the Throwdown being weight control)….al best to you.

I will check with my cardiologist tomorrow and see what he says, my AVR was only a mini incision horizontally above my right breast, there is a titanium plate in there to connect my rib back to my chest bone. As far as the weight loss, biking helps me because I love to cook and it keeps me out of my kitchen!!!!!!

Awesome loss Cooker!! Equally awesome that you changed course quickly when you saw yourself going an unhelpful direction this week! I really think that's a great positive thing vs "Oh well, I might as well eat off plan all week" : ) Glad everybody is doing well.

I am very happy to have lost 2 lbs this week - that is extremely large for me and I have been working very hard at it. I have to go back for my "big appointment" on Monday for echo and to see if my doc's "that don't look so good" from six months ago is confirmed. Think I can lose another 5-6 pounds by Monday? Well not unless I cut off my arm. :) At least focusing on what I CAN work on (weight) is giving me a mental focus and some sense of dignity and control vs. what I can't (what my heart decides to do). I sure hope I can stay in the waiting room a little longer but we shall see.
