Good morning, Throwdowners! Time to get up and march around the breakfast table! Okay, Superbob knows most of you have had your breakfast and moved on to work, but SB is preparing to scout up his morning vittles -- following instructions to have a lot of protein with every meal.

Sweet Sixteen starts tonight -- exciting! Even more exciting -- Major League baseball season is about to start. GO REDBIRDS! Not to be neglected is the local minor-league team -- our Pelicans play in a ballpark that outranks many MLB parks in ambience, according to various ballpark ratings. Organizing a Mended Hearts outing there on a $1 Hebrew National Hot Dog Night -- yum!

Okay, SB will weigh in tomorrow -- no matter that his walking becomes more problematic with each outing. Uncanny the impending knee replacement is coming as the knee breaks down toward a total shutdown. Looks like I had the right instinct to go to the ortho, and he knew when the must-do time had arrived. Nervous about it -- yes. Your prayers and good thoughts appreciated.

All best to all Throwdowners -- look forward to 100 percent participation! Spring is here so spring weather soon will follow.

I will not weigh but I will pray .... Looking to the day that SuperBob will be jumping, leaping .... we have you in our prays big guy

Thanks, Tom.

My doc's advisory says no jogging or running or jumping after having this done.

However, expected activities include "recreational walking, swimming, light hiking, recreational biking, and ballroom dancing."

I will gladly take any of the above if I am privileged to have them to enjoy.

I appreciate the prayers because no matter the success rate, no surgery is routine.

Next season Dancing With The Stars!!!! .... SuperBob rules the floor!!!!

Hmmmm, do I get to pick my dancing partner? (Actually, they all look great.) :biggrin2:

Well, munchkins aka grandkiddies appeared at the door early this morning wanting Pop-Pop Pancakes, so naturally Sb ate a stack himself. (Quality control, you know.) Weighing will have to wait til tomorrow -- actually, my activity has slowed so much (while a certain amount of nervous eating has ramped up), I don't think the scales will have any good news. Will try to be brave and take a look anyway.:rolleyes2:

Stick a fork in me, I'm done

Stick a fork in me, I'm done

I weighed this morning, and no surprise to me, I'm up a pound. Easter preparations have hit with a vengeance, and I realize that the potential for consuming thousands of extra calories is knocking at the door, and I'm opening it! All five kids will gather here by tonight, and dinner is at the river casino's buffet. Tomorrow we go "home" to southern Illinois and a typical family meal that rivals any, anywhere, in terms of home-cooked food and home-made desserts. Sunday, I'm center stage fixing Easter dinner, and the goal is for everyone to leave the table feeling like they've relived Thanksgiving in Spring. Throw in an abundance of Easter candy, swiped from the grand kids' Easter baskets, and I'm facing a diet Armageddon.
Next week's weigh-in will not be pretty, but I will have had a good time.:wink2:
Happy Easter!:smile2:

Starting weight: 151
Last week: 150.4
This week: 151.5

I weighed this AM, and was surprised to see that I'm down a bit. I won't publish my weight yet, as I'm skeptical that it is real. I'm still taking some meds designed to "facilitate digestive action" after my hernia surgery, so my weight may be artificially reduced for a while. I'll track it, and if it stays down, I'll make a retrospective post.

I've gotten back to the gym for a few days this week. No weights (at all, so far), and no exercise bike. The weights for the obvious reason, the bike because my surgeon thinks I may not be ready for the trunk twisting that the cyclical handlebars may cause. I'm not sure I agree with him, but I'll concede that he is my doctor in this and I'd rather be cautious and take a while longer than have to go through it all again. I've been walking 2 to 3 miles a day, though, and feel great. Looking forward to spring.

SB - Know that we are thinking of you and our prayers are with you in your knee re-do. A friend of mine, a former jock, had knee replacement about 3 years ago. She did really well through all the rehab, gaining back full range of motion and all, but then blew off the ongoing training and fitness plans. She still walks well, but could have a much better life if she had stayed with the plan. I know we don't have to worry about you not staying with it, so I expect nothing but the best outcome for you.

Seems like everyone is doing well!

I weighed this morning and I'm down 1.4 pounds at 188.2, which makes me down 6.5 for the year. Again, I don't know why I'm down, but will take it. Cindy is up 2 lbs and she doesn't like; don't blame her.

Glad you're making good progress and behaving Steve. SB, prayers continuing! Mary, enjoy Armageddon on Easter!!!! Cooker, the scales are talking, you're just not listening! ; )

Well, guess I took a mulligan for Easter Week. Did do some family dining-out, including a nice outing at Carrabba's after church when I got the pork chop marsala -- yum! But took half of it home for dinner. And I ate zero -- yes, zero -- Easter bunny candy. That's a far cry from previous years. So I don't think I've done too much damage -- still, I haven't gotten around to weighing -- will just check it this Friday.

Have watched a lot of NCAA basketball, opening night of baseball, and there are four Opening Day MLB games on tube today, though only one I'm really interested in is Cardinals late tonight (in Arizona)....

Hope all are doing well. I have my final pre-op doc and hospital run-through Wednesday. Should have more info after that.

Cheers....

Sounds like you had a very behaved mulligan! Prayers still coming for all concerned regarding your knee. Your personal trainer, Superdog Sadie, needs you in tip top shape!

SB - Don't forget to tell the doc that you want the one with the roller bearings and extra grease fittings!

Wishing you more of the best as you progress toward the new knee.

Thanks, Throwdown friends -- just went through another four hours pre-op prep at doc's and hospital, so I guess there is no chickening out now. Medical supply guy is supposed to be here in an hour to set me up with the passive motion device to use after surgery, a walker with wheels (probably the only wheels I get, Steve), a bathroom accessory and who knows what else. So yeah there is no chickening out now. :eek2:

Surprise was that my surgery is not scheduled until 1130 in the ahem -- my pre-op nurse recognized that could be problematic (the no eating or drinking after midnight bit) for a type 2 diabetic, so that may be moved up. If not, I was told I can eat something if it's 8 hours before -- so I could have a 3 a.m. snack. (I am a night owl, and doubt I'll sleep much anyway).....so, did I mention there's no chickening out now? :redface2:

Who wants to chicken out? You've already done the hard part, so just work the plan. That way you'll be on the mend sooner.

We'll be watching for updates when you're ready, SB. May The Force be with you.

I thought about you today when I looked at our weekly supermarket ad, Bob. Schnuck's Market, headquartered in St. Louis, is selling MLB St. Louis Cardinal cookies!:tongue2:
Yes, if I get your address, you may get a package or two to help with your post-op recovery.:smile2:
By the way, DH is flying into Charleston tomorrow for a hospital on site visit. I expect you and Cooker to tell your South Carolina weather to behave itself while he's there. I've seen the forecast, and its not looking very hospitable.

Oh durn, Mary, sorry tomorrow's the day your DH will be visiting Charleston, a lovely, lovely city. Forecast at least here up the coast and I assume Charleston is 100 percent chance of rain, sometimes heavy.:frown2:

I got measured for a "passive movement" device that I have to use in bed to bend at 45 degree angle increasing gradually to 120 degrees -- for up to 8 hours a day, for a couple of weeks! :eek2: I guess if I can get my laptop computer positioned, I will be online more than ever to pass the time. Surely the passive movement will be mixed with some regular walking -- I'll have to ask the PT

Duffey - Until now I never connected the dots to see where you are located. I have family in Belleville (on the Illinois side), so I get to STL more than occasionally. Schnuck's is our favorite local chain store (wife likes the gourmet specialty shops more, though), and their in-store bakeries make wonderful cookies!

Since you're in the area, do you like Fitz's Root Beer? My sister got us started on it, and every time we are in town, we have to bring back a couple of cases of the stuff.

We also make it a point to always take a walk in my favorite "secret" park. Not Forest Park, although that one is beautiful. I prefer the turn-of-the-century ambience and tranquility of Tower Grove Park. My wife and I spent a whole afternoon walking there when I finalized my decision to move ahead with valve surgery. We enjoyed the solitude and beauty so much, we go back there whenever we are in town.

Steve, my brother-in-law teaches band at Belleville West, so we are over there several times a year. We'll be there next month for a niece's wedding.
We enjoy Fitz's Root Beer, and Tower Grove Park is one we use to frequent when we lived in St. Louis. We were members of Missouri Botanical Gardens so knew the area quite well. Have you picked apples at Eckert's?

Ekert's? Hasn't everyone who visits the area in fall been there? We make it a point to pick apples if we're out that way during the season, but the last couple of years we've been in northern Indiana when the Honey Crisp apples are ready to pick, so we have found another orchard up there.

Fitz's, on the other hand, is a year-round treat. We also try to get to Ted Drew's for frozen custard, too.

While we're down there I also make some stops at local antique shops to fuel one of my other hobbies - acquiring and restoring antique fountain pens.

I really enjoy the whole St. Louis metro area and might have moved there, except that I don't think I could deal with the extremem summer humidity (compared to Chicago).
