Greetings, merry Throwdowners! Now that's a bit more chipper than last week's opening, right? Still not completely chipper, but chip-chip-chipping away.

Looking forward to hearing from the whole crew this week, as we approach the lovey-dovey day, Saint Valentine's Day. A happy one to all -- make my candy treat that healthy dark chocolate (in a nice healthy amount). :biggrin2:

Okay, SuperduperBob is at 260.4 this morning….that's down just .2 from last weigh-in but at least it's down.

For the Race to Saint Paddy's Day, the Man 'o Steel is down 2.6 pounds, and no doubt still trails The Kentucky Flash and maybe others….we'll see what happens down the March home stretch….

Okay, have a good week, all….

Oh, and my one gripe concerns a continuing shoulder pain, and even stranger pain in one thigh when driving a car, that seems to have come on after I had a shingles shot about a month ago….I am wondering if it is some sort of side-effect of shingles that will go away with time and in the process leave me with some immunity….or maybe it's something totally unrelated -- strange it is, whatever it is. There, I'm done griping.

Glad to hear SuperBob is a bit more chipper... we can't have our resident super hero down in the dumps ... unless it's dump cake:biggrin2:

I have been doing pretty well sticking to my plan and trying to get a bit more exercise when work schedule permits ... I'm pretty much convinced that my SOB is due to weight and inactivity because since I have been eating right and moving a bit more it seems to less noticeable. Anyway I'll mention it to my cardiologist in March; I think I'm scheduled for a stress echo so that should give more insight... My aim is to avoid another cath if possible.

2104 Starting Weight: 232
Todays Weight: 229.0
Net Change: -3.0

First, way to go, Mr. Chimp!

Neil, I think I speak without fear of contradiction from The Chimp or The Ref: Chocolate cake is absolutely great under Throwdowner rules on Valentine's Day and birthdays (not to mention assorted other holidays or special occasions)….;)

Okay, my doctor says my aches and pains couldn't possibly be the after-effect of a shingles shot, and she says I should either see her or an orthopedist (and she recommended one, so I'm thinking that's where she thinks I should go).

However, DW has started going to a chiropractor for some severe hip and leg pain, and after just two sessions with him, says it is getting better and is urging me to go see him.

Any Throwdowners have experience with chiropractors? Worth a shot? I'm not keen on anything else orthopedic that entails drugs or surgery.

I'm not so sure about chiropractors. I have several friends and relatives who swear that this is the only way they get any relief, but I've never heard of a doctor going to one. Also, when I was in physical therapy for my pinched lumbar nerve, the therapist felt that any practitioner who thrives on long-term repeat visits cannot be that dedicated to the patient's well-being. So, it is my opinion that a chiropractor is not the way to go. YMMV, though, and if it feels good, do it.

I'll have to weigh in tomorrow. I know I did weigh this AM, but I'll be darned if I can remember the number. This getting old thing is a real pain sometimes.

Bob, I was a skeptic for many years about chiropractic "medicine". I have had two occasion to use their services. The first was after AVR to treat severe neck and shoulder pain and the second was for a paralyzing pinched nerve under the shoulder blade that almost had me calling an ambulance.

I think there are two types of chiropractors, ones that knows the limitations of what adjustments can accomplish and the ones that think they can treat anything (the dangerous ones). I would give it a try. Can't really hurt. Good luck!!!

Thanks Cooker and Steve -- opinions are sharply divided on chiropractic. Think I will see if my wife continues to benefit -- she had gotten nowhere with conventional doctors in seeking pain relief -- before I decide. May just try to exercise my way through it…..

Hey every single throwdowner,

I hope all,of you have a happy V -day. I saw a box of chocolates at CVS today that had to weigh 10 lbs...ie obesity. IE.. Loving my chocolate.

P.S. Steve in Chicago, I am traveling to Chicago next Friday, Feb. 14. Hope the weather permits.

It's good to hear that Cooker is back on track; it will help to compensate for my total diet derailment.
It's 13 degrees outside, and I felt an overwhelming urge for chocolate tonight, which I indulged with a warm chocolate chip cookie sundae from our local ice cream stand. Until it warms up, I'm taking comfort wherever, whenever and with whatever I can find.

SB - It sure can't hurt to "interview" the chiropractor, if you have the opportunity. Each case is different, and he/she may have the "right" attitude to give you confidence in their approach. The main reason I do not try it for back pain is that I've seen the X-rays or my lumbar region and I have some bone spurs growing. I am afraid (and my doc is too) that a "manipulation" could cause one of those spurs to break loose or just pinch the nerve again, and set me back to the starting line. Not for me, maybe good for you.

This week I'll make Friday my weigh-in day. I held off yesterday, as I observed a "low" reading and didn't think it was real. Well, today I'm the same as yesterday, so I'll acknowledge it and see if I can keep it. I still think it is backlash from the steroids and antibiotics from my sinus infection, but we'll see.

Start of year: 158.8
Last week: 156.8
This week: 156.2

YTD: -2.6

Any of the above readings are within my goal range, as I'm trying to stay in the 150's over the winter. Since I usually gain a few pounds over the cold-weather months, I thought that would help ensure that I could get to the lower 150's during the summer. I'm pleased so far, but I can't rest on my laurels (or my butt, for that matter), as weight management is a process - not an event.

Glad to see so many folks back around. Duffey - I crack up every time I see that avatar. It is a good thing I've already finished my first mug of coffee, or I'd be looking for a new keyboard.

Duffey, I have a week like yours. Stir crazy and undisciplined, but also sick and undisciplined. I go to the doctor today. I suspect bronchitis which I haven't had in a long time. It don't function well with it at all. If I make it to the WW meeting, I am taking my "no weigh pass" this time, because I can. This too shall pass.

Wise, so sorry you're under the weather (sorry to mention the weather. :biggrin2:) And Duffey sorry you're having a tough go with the weather, too. All I can say is that the Redbirds will be playing ball soon, first in Jupiter, then in Saint Louie itself. Play ball!

Steve, sounds like you're hanging in there, preparing for Spring. Thanks for your thoughts on chiropractors. I had similar qualms 10 years ago when a chiropractor was excessively confident that he could do something about my spinal stenosis, a narrowing of the lumbar spinal column. I fled him, but got good results in physical therapy. Main thing that helps with the stenosis is losing weight, so I am in the right place with the Throwdown. Maybe I will see an orthopedist and get a prescription for PT as well. I think I will pass on the chiropractor right now, but continue to hope he really is helping my DW as she thinks he is. They obviously have the welcome mat out for me too (I have to take her there 'cause she is unable to drive)…. Anyway, I ramble.

All best to our merry band of Throwdowners!

Here is hoping everyone has a chipper weekend. I haven't felt like working out at all with the cold weather this week. But I sure have enjoyed my pantry and cooking and tasting. Staying inside, having to walk through my kitchen to get anywhere in my house, is not good for my 2014 weight goal.

I know, no body feels sorry for me in Alabama, temp was 40 today.

Not to worry Duffey.... You will get back to it and spring will get here....eventually :smile2:

Here in cold Canada, err I mean Kentucky, it is still, well, cold. We went to our WW meeting this morning. Cindy weighed; gained 1/2 pound. She was surprised she had gained. I did not weigh, took advantage of my no-weigh pass because there was no way I was going to weigh, hehe. Taking my antibiotics and waiting to improve. I will post a more complete report next week, when hopefully I feel like I'm among the normal.

up and down up and down up and down up and down up and down up and down up and down up and down up and down up and down .... It's hard to believe that a couple nights of food debauchery can lead to a 3 pound gain .... no discouragement on this end though ... I shall fall to the occasion:tongue2:
