Superbob is officially starting a new weigh-in week for the Throwdown, while confessing to befuddlement at his WW scales. They have stayed exactly the same -- no fluctuation of even one-tenth of a pound -- the past three weeks. Is that possible? Shouldn't there be daily fluctuations of at least tenths of a pound even if you are on a plateau? I have changed the batteries just to see if that makes a difference. It doesn't.

Could this be the time for Superbob to use his "My dawg ate my scales" excuse? :tongue2:

In any event, SB will weigh tomorrow morning -- and he almost hopes for any change, even upward, to be sure his scales are not stuck. :eek2:

Venting time: Still having strange pains in both shoulders and elsewhere.:frown2: They start coming on late in evening, and then by time I get up in the morning, have pains in both shoulders, getting myself out of bed actually hurts. Bad. Eases when I loosen up. Also have pain in on side of neck (could just be the standard old "crick"); and a pain in upper thigh. All strange. I guess I should take my GP's advice and go see a young orthopedist who gets raves from many in the community. Maybe another round of physical therapy is just what I need. Wouldn't mind if he checked out my replaced knee, too. It is still numb and feels a little tighter than it used to, though it doesn't hurt … Maybe remedial PT is needed.

Could it all be the creep of arthritis? Chiropractors are still spooky to me, though some people absolutely swear by them. DW has suggested we need a new mattress -- and that's probably true, and we will price them and try to select a good one, but I can't imagine that a mattress could be the sole cause of all this. Grrrr. Also starting with a new cardiologist in a few weeks -- guess we can see if any of this is cardio-related. I don't think so.

Okay, Superbob will try to keep Superdawg from chomping on his scales, and forge ahead.

All best to all Throwdowners. Look forward to hearing from ALL of you this week!

Bob, I can't use digital scales because of what you just stated ... I never know if they are working correctly ... Years back I bought the "old style" doctors scale with the slide weight system and love them .. they are easy to calibrate when needed and seem to be true to weight ... now I can only detect 1/4 pound changes but when I get to a point where 1/4 pound is not accurate enough I have either lost all I need to or have an obsession with weight gain (we all know I don't:biggrin2:) ... I wish you luck getting your pain issues resolved ... have you tried massage and or hot tub soaks? ... when I get "stove up" these seem to help me a great deal...

TheChimp is down .5 pounds this week and surprised since I had a two day eat-a-thon due to being iced in with power and an abundant supply of food:eek2: ... Looking forward to hearing how everyone else has done

I will weigh in tomorrow. I picked grandson Charlie up early, and since he's staying the day, I didn't have time to jump on the scales.

Bob, try weighing holding something else (a couple of cans or some heavy books) in your hands. I think the WW scales have a feature where they remember your weight, and hold the number in its memory. Perhaps that's the problem.

Thanks for the suggestions on the scales -- I had wondered about scale memory -- I would rather have one with amnesia. :tongue2: And good job, Mr. Chimp on the weight loss!

Re my aches and pains, we have the most considerate doctor ever! As many of you know, I drive DW to her appointments b/c she has a sight problem as a result of stroke and surgery years ago. Also, she has hearing problems and so wants me to sit in on her appointments. With past doctors, it has been made clear that when accompanying DW, I am NOT to ask about my own problems, even though we have the same doc -- that I have to make a separate appointment. However, this morning after a thorough check on DW, the doc asked on her own about my aches and pains. I said they were continuing but I hadn't taken time to call the orthopedist her office had recommended. So she said she would call him this afternoon with a referral and they would call me to make an appointment. I was so impressed that she thought of me, and asked -- don't remember ever having a doctor that caring and considerate.

So I've checked around, and this guy is supposed to be best ortho going around here. If we head the PT route, I will ask about possibility of massage therapy too. I used to have one in an upscale DC location and used her therapeutic services when I could afford to do so. At the beach, you have to be sure you are not signing up for more than therapy, if you get my drift. :biggrin2:

Sb,

By any chance do you read an IPad or Kindle in bed? I have been having radiating shoulder pain daily that goes to both shoulders and I am now certain it is reading my iPad in bed.

Just wondering.

Nope, I don't do that, but I do lie on my side or stomach to get to sleep and contort my arms in weird ways. Probably would help if I could sleep on my back. But I think my problem may have started when I unwisely messed around with some weights in the workout room (though not very heavy ones). May have impingement of the rotator cuffs (my best guess from surfing the Internet, another thing I do too much of).:D

Hope your shoulder pain clears up.

SB, I am hoping you are getting to the bottom of this. Haha, my husband and I are facing a new challenge.

He fell down 3 unlighted, short steps, and now had surgery yesterday to reattach his tricep to the broken elbow.
Not laughing, but we are all either laughing or crying. My BAV and enlarged aorta has become a back burner.

Oh my gosh, that's a serious accident and procedure for your husband. Hope he recovers well from it.

Hi, everyone! Sounds like a busy week, and not all of it good. Hope everyone is feeling better soon.

SB - I can sympathize with you on the shoulder pain. I've had pain in both shoulders for weeks now, and I really do not know the cause. I doubt that it is the weights I lift, as I have not changed the routine in about 2 years. Light weights, high reps. Hurts anyway. First it was my back, then my neck, now my shoulders. The back and neck is attributed to arthritis and a pinched nerve in my lower back. I'm almost afraid to have the shoulders examined for fear of what they will diagnose next. Hope I can wait until my next regular visit with the internist to discuss.

On the weight front, I seem to be backsliding. Not by major amounts, but still going in the wrong direction.

Start of year: 158.8
Last week: 157.2
This week: 157.6

At the moment, I attribute the small gain to residual fluid retention from Tuesday's conference room lunch brought in from a local Chinese salt mine. That seems to always affect me for several days afterward. On Wednesday morning I was up quite a bit and it has been declining since. One can hope.

They say misery loves company, but I am sorry you are having shoulder pain, too, Steve.

I've dealt with back, heart, and knee over past decade, but shoulder was always my big, constant strength. Was third baseman in varsity baseball; had a very strong throwing arm. Continued to use it in industrial league softball, then throwing with kids, now grandkids, and of course dogs. Could still throw a long distance. Now -- what, I dunno, creep of arthritis, maybe impingement on rotator cuffs (which might be dealt with arthroscopically if PT doesn't help). Kind of depressing, but then I think: I am not 25 any more. In fact, I am almost 50 years past 25. :eek2:

Okay we keep battling and do best we can.

Finally got my flighty scales to budge this morning, resetting the memory. (Really need to find a stable set of scales like Cooker's.) But am giving myself one more morning on official weighing. In taking DW to her doc yesterday, we went by her favorite Carolina home-cooking place and had not only lunch but takeout for dinner last night. Can anyone say no to a Tar Heel Missus in such circumstances? :rolleyes2:

My scales today read the same as my January starting weight. I'm not happy with the numbers, but I recognize it's been a tough seven weeks of winter weather, and I've coped by exercising less and eating more. On a positive note, I did walk four days.:smile2:
Today's weight: 151.5
Starting weight: 151.5
YTD: 0

No gain is a HUGE victory in my book:thumbup:

Well, I did not sleep well at all, so I did not get up early and take us to weigh in at WW. I will weigh and report next week.

Hang in there everyone, talking to myself to, because the Spring is close even if the cold temps do return this week here.

We are going with our friends next door to a local place (across the river in Indiana) called Hubers. They have an orchard and a restaurant. Have never been but they are supposed to have home cooking with lots of healthy veggies. Of course, I know they have desserts too. We're going first to a wine tasting and then to eat. So, I'll have to do my best and not go hog wild, especially with dessert.

Hey to all throwdowners. I have gained a pound this week, due to two things...night eating, and being an inactive nurse to my husband. He fell last week and broke his elbow bone, taking 60% of his tricep floating around. He had surgery on Wednesday , and he and his nurse have been very Inactive.

He has however, lost 10 lbs.

Ha

Well, a one-pound gain must be the least of your worries. So sorry y'all are dealing with this -- hope and pray your husband will recover well from what sounds like a traumatic injury.

Super dornole is feeling crestfallen today getting busted for being over goal weight (I am a WW lifetime member) at 147.8.

Well, I supposed I can look at it as, I actually probably lost 5 pounds in my last 2 weeks of working the program which is a very good result - I had just gained that much from addictive eating earlier this month.

My goal is to continue my good pattern and that should get me down in the comfy 140ish range where I do not have to worry about weighing in each month . . . and that will be good enough, I don't want to get too thin in case I have to go on the "surgery weight loss plan" : ) I was not aware of that common issue so that's changing up my perspective a bit. Fat ain't good but neither is frail.

Stick with it everybody!

"Fat ain't good but neither is frail." Good stuff! Superbob may use this as his new motto! :biggrin2:

Sounds like you are right in the target zone as a lifetime WW member, dornole. I'm sure you know swings of mood come with swings of weight, but the key is sticking with it long-term.

As for Superbob, his mood is smiley-faced today, sunny, whatever :smile2: because at his WW weigh-in this morning, he has broken through the stubborn, dreaded plateau that had persisted for a few weeks, and has a nice weekly loss. Will see if can hold that for the TD weigh-in Friday. Since joining WW mid-December (a challenging time to join), SB has lost 8.6 pounds -- so far. :thumb up:

Cheerio!
