Welcome to the Saint Valentine's Day edition of the Throwdown! Wishing all Throwdowners a joyous hearts-and-flowers day, with chocolate and other delectations to your heart's content. :biggrin2:

Almost forgot that today is Thursday -- everything has blurred together this week, with an ice storm along the Carolina coast that just now seems to be winding down after almost three days. My backyard and the woods beyond resemble a war zone. For a while yesterday we heard loud popping and cracking noises one after another, followed by large limbs falling and some trees breaking in two under the weight of ice. When the temp finally rose to 34, it mercifully subsided. My cherished stand of cedar trees has taken a few hits -- one of them in particular may not survive, but we will try to save it.

All that said, I am not particularly in the mood to weigh this morning, but I will step on the scales tomorrow morning. If anyone affected by storms wants to take a mulligan, Superbob will grant it. No doubt comfort food has been consumed this week -- and good luck on getting out and walking on sheer ice. To top it off, Superdawg has been battling an infection -- seems to be getting better now with help of some meds from the vet.

Okay, looking forward to hearing from all. Superbob will weigh in the morning before taking his DW to a fine Italian restaurant, her favorite, for Valentine's Day.

Cheers to all!

I hope Superdawg gets feeling better soon, Bob, and good luck trying to save your cedar trees.

I will try to post a weight in the morning, but I think I've only managed to stay the same, so I'm not real motivated. I had high hopes that tomorrow would bring a return to more mild, moderate weather, but they've revised the forecast to include a few inches of wet snow.:frown2: It's been nearly impossible to take a daily walk with the ice covering our sidewalks. I've signed up for a 5K Run/Walk, which I'm sure I'll have to walk, the end of March so the weather needs to cooperate. Anyone have a direct line to Old Mother Nature?:wink2:

Everyone enjoy Valentine's Day!

Oh SNAP!!!! ... I sure hate to hear Superdawg is feeling poorly ... best wishes for a quick recover ... day two of both stores being closed due to ice, snow and freezing rain... comfort food has been the order of the past two days and I must say YUMMMMMMMO!!!!:biggrin2: ... I'm up "3" pounds and can account for every ounce:wink2: ... I was going to take a mulligan this week but decided to take my medicine and hold myself accountable ... my last dose of medicine was administered via strawberry shortcake :biggrin2::tongue2:

Duffey ... hate to hear the weather is coming your way:frown2: ... I know DW and I have had our fill of the frozen:eek2:

Happy Valentines Day and pass the chocolates!!!!

Oh goodness, Son of Superbob has just invited us to go to a new Chinese restaurant tonight. So I am reporting my weight that I saw on the scales this morning -- 260.4 -- which is exactly the weight I saw a week ago.

So no change, status quo ante bedlam (ice storm).:tongue2:

Still down 2.6 pounds for the Race to Saint Paddy's Day.

Probably won't see a status quo number tomorrow morning after eating Chinese, but will spend weekend working it off. (Wise, how do you report Chinese in WW points?) :eek2:

Did make it to neighborhood workout room this afternoon for first time since onset of freezing rain Tuesday.

SB - My experience with Chinese food is that it is usually the sodium that gets me. I typically gain anywhere from 1 to 3 pounds of fluid after a typical Asian meal. It takes me days to work it off. Anybody know a fast way to normalize your body fluid, short of sneaking lasix?

This wasn't a good week for me on the scales. Between last weekend's restaurant indulgences (including Asian!) and a "seminar lunch" yesterday, I assess the damage at:

Start of year: 158.8
Last week: 156.2
This week: 157.2

YTD now down to -1.6, with a net gain of 1.0 for the week.

Along with this, the weather is not cooperating -- I cannot get outside to do anything. Snow in my yard is still about waist-deep, and many sidewalks are not cleared, so no walks. Hope I can hold at a reasonable weight until the weather breaks. I also have to get into shape for a cruise we've planned for May (Our nephew decided to hold his wedding on a cruise. How could we refuse to attend?)

Eventually the thaw will come to Chicago, the Cubs will be playing at Wrigley, and all will be well with the world, I'm sure -- and you will be back on track, Steve.

I have no weight gain from last night's Chinese feast. I had a scallops and veggies feast that was yummy -- this is a family biz, neat little place, with everything made from scratch -- maybe they spare the sodium a bit, I dunno. Anyway, glad to see no overnight gain. Now, tonight is Italian -- taking DW to her favorite one for Valentine's Day. Think I will opt for the chicken marsala, which is quite good and also somewhat less caloric than some other dishes, esp. if you go easy on the sauces (I understand)…

Anyway, Happy Valentine's Day to all Throwdowners.

The sun is back out here, Superdawg is feeling better, and we will be going for a walk. Also participating in the Great Backyard Bird Count, which is fun. www.BirdCount.org

cheerio.

I still haven't gotten on the scales, but I did get a walk in both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's walk was bitterly cold; Sunday's was a little bit warmer. There's cold rain falling today, but the forecast is for clearing skies by late afternoon, so maybe I'll extend my two day walking streak into three.:biggrin2:

Well, we did weigh Saturday. I gained 2 1/2 lbs which was a result of being sick and not being disciplined during that time. Back on track but having issues with wanting to ignore the points values of some foods. Endurance is the word for my food week this week. Cindy lost .8 lbs. I think. I'll post the proper numbers next Saturday after the next weigh-in.

I'm still here trying. Yesterday once again I had to cancel my trip to the gym in order to go home and shovel snow. This winter in Chicago now ranks at the 5th snowiest winter in recorded history, and we still have some of February and all of March to go. (Not to mention the possibility of snow as late as Memorial Day in Chicago.)

I now have pains in muscles I never knew I had. I just hope they go away and not linger for months like this snow seems to. The snow in my back yard is still well above waist deep. Kind of makes it difficult to get back there to clear the snow off the rooftop satellite dish. Wife cannot live without her TV.

Wow! Wish I could send you some of our 70-degree weather today, Steve! We've had back-to-back ice storms and an earthquake in SC in the past month, but would not trade for your waist-deep snow and more on the way. Hang in there, Steve!

Looks like that's basically what we're all trying to do -- just hang in there. I know the Kentucky Flash will rebound from his past week's setback. The Chimp is reliably resilient. And Duffey will be out on the walking trails, when winter lets up. Me, I'm just staying the same the past few weeks on Weight Watchers -- I'm still down 7.5 since mid-December, but I want to take the next step and be minus-10. Just have to stay with it.

Well, it isn't looking too good - in more ways than one. I'll wait and weigh tomorrow, but I'm not expecting great results right now. Yesterday we had our monthly executive staff meeting, which includes lunch. This time they ordered from somebody's (not mine) favorite Chinese restaurant. I ate, but probably shouldn't have (although I "had" to, as the meeting ran from 11 AM to almost 4 PM). Not only was the food obviously high in sodium, but I was awake for hours last night with various kinds of stomach discomfort. Maybe next time I should do as the native Chinese seem to do - order a big bowl of rice with a few pieces of meat and vegetables tossed in for color.

As if that isn't enough, Chicago is having a couple of days of fake spring. Yesterday evening and today temps will be in the mid-40's. Combine that with the several feet of snow piled across all the yards and open spaces, and they are worried about flooding. It is bad enough that the ground is still frozen, but also the sewer inlets are mostly covered by several feet of ice and snow. We will probably have lots of standing water on the streets, walks and parking lots. I just hope it doesn't lead to foundation seepage, as hardly anybody has insurance for that sort of damage.

Summer - Please hurry!

Steve,

I was in Chicago over the weekend and I have never felt cold like that. We flew out from midway Sunday morning at 930 in the middle of a whiteout storm. Does seem like you all have the skills and tools to handle snow though. There were many signs around warning about falling ice.

Uh, were you lost????? You traded Mobile for Chicago even for a weekend? :eek2: This winter weather doesn't end pretty soon, you and Superbob and Cooker will find northern Throwdowner's knocking on your doors.:tongue2:

We had bought Justin Timberlake tickets 9 months ago. And I definitely worried about flying in and out. My daughters are34 and30, who got the tickets. Loved Chicago .

I.e. mobile is 72 fahrenheit.

I should not have posted my weather experience in Chicago on the thread. I apologize.

I sure hope you don't think you led the thread astray. Astray is where we like to be!:biggrin2: That's what makes the Throwdown fun. If we stuck to matters only related to weight loss, we all would have been outta here years ago!:smile2:

mbeard, absolutely no apology needed for posting your weather experience in Chicago! As Duffey indicated, astray is where we Throwdowners love to go (takes our mind off weight. :tongue2:) ISuperbob, in fact, is one of the most wandering members of all. It was interesting to read of your travels from Mobile to Chicago to the concert. We love to hear about family happenings, and of course we swap info lots about weather in different parts of the country -- and the world. We talk about kids, grandkids, sports, our aches and pains (a specialty of mine :tongue2:) and just about everything imaginable….:biggrin2: We value your participation highly and please feel free to share unapologetically.
