Welcome to the holiday edition of the Throwdown, and here's wishing you all a Merry Christmas!

It is a tough time of the year to be losing weight, or even thinking about it; maintaining, or just not gaining a big amount, are often reasonable goals as an alternative.

Superbob will certainly enjoy the big feast with his family and share in the joy of grandkiddies, as well as grown-up kiddies and the dawgs (Superdawg gets as excited as any child about Christmas!).

However, SB got disgusted with himself for getting out of control and gaining back the 7 pounds he had lost for 2013, and a few more on top of that. So this week he joined Weight Watchers for the first time. He is optimistic that this will be a continuing commitment, even during holidays (though still observing and enjoying them).

The initial signs are good.

This week, Superbob has shed 3.8 pounds. That puts him back to minus-one pound for 2013. WW has taken my data and set an interim goal for me that will take me down to where I had resolved to be -- down another 10 pounds.

If SB were shrewd, he would save this loss for the start of the pending Race to Saint Paddy's Day. But that would give the Man o' Steel too much of an advantage -- so he'll count his beginning losses now.

Okay maybe I am a little crazy to reassert my steely resolve with WW as my ally this time of year, but it's what I need to do.

Here's wishing you all again a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Let us hear from you even if you are taking a break from The Throwdown..

Cheers,

Superbob

Good job SB! I think you'll be glad that you joined WW. It really is a very effective program. I'm glad that you plan on enjoying the Christimas goodies. I will too. Of course, we have tools to help us do so without breaking the "point" bank, hehe. Cindy and I will weigh on Saturday and report as soon as I remember to do it!

Thanks, Wise -- I think WW is going to help me a lot. Thanks to you and Cindy for being my inspiration! Quick question: Today I accompanied DW to one of her ladies' clubs' Christmas parties. How do you enter tracking for a delicacy such as seafood strudel -- which had the outer strudel crust with inside being crab meat, flounder, and shrimp (I think) -- and of course some sort of creamy sauce? And then for dessert, slice of cake had a few slivers of chocolate and a creamy sliver (maybe cheesecake) -- it was all scrumptious but small.

You just make your best guesstimate and try to be honest? I think I will have used some of those bonus points today. :smile2:

Merry Christmas . . . almost!

Good job, Superbob! I think your joining WW now, rather than waiting until after the New Year, is a great idea. I know that it's difficult to count the calories in the treats and goodies we encounter/consume during the holiday season, but make your best guesstimate and add more points than you think necessary.

I'm down a pound from last week, which puts me down a half pound for the year.

This week: 151.
Last week: 152
YTD: -.5

Best guestimate: Seafood Strudel 10 points. Cake 10 points. I don't think it will be very different from that especially if the servings were small. However if the strudel was very fatty you might add a few points. Seafood in itself is low in points, but the breading and the sauce make up for it. That's how I would have counted it if I had eaten it.

Not bad Mary, especially considering how badly you felt this week. A loss for the year is a good thing! Hope you keep feeling better and the stress level lessens a little.

I thought I dodged the bullet, but I should have called upon Superbob to run interference. I've got a fever of 101, chills, and a real nasty cough. You know . . . the kind that makes even your little toe shake with the lung vibration. Not the best time to get sick, but then I wasn't given a choice.:tongue2:

I agree, Duffey. You're doing well.

Now, as for me, I've consumed my allotted points for the day and even eaten 4 off my extra points for the week (still have 44). That's before any snacking tonight. I gather my week runs Tuesday to Tuesday since I joined on a Tuesday. So I better conserve my points if I want to have a yummy treat this weekend….

Oh no --- just read this while my latest was posting. Not good! Can you see your doc tomorrow? So sorry -- it IS a crummy time to get sick. Hope you feel better very soon.

Sorry to hear that Duffey! Prayers for a quick recovery!!!!

SB, you are doing very well. Yes your week would be Tuesday to Tuesday. There is a way to change your weigh in date, if it's important to you. You have to search for it on WW's site and I don't remember exactly where it is.

Take care. Will be thinking of you.

Sorry the Duffster is ailing :frown2: there is a wicked stomach bug going around in our parts and so far I have dodge the bullet .... wish all a Happy Holiday Season!!!

Chimp sighting! CHIMP SIGHTING! Attention all Throwdowners -- the legendary Chimp has checked in!

We've been missing some of our regulars lately. Superbob won't call names -- he knows how hectic this time of year is….

Just know the door is open here, if you want to say hello -- no weighing required -- mulligans all around.

And a Merry Christmas to all!

Here's hoping Mary is starting to feel better!

Superbob is pleased as punch at all the weight Wise & Cindy are losing --- that'll make them easier to pass in the Race to Saint Paddy's Day, starting January 2, 2014.:tongue2:

Happy New Year! :wink2:

Cindy called SB a conniver for some reason, then she said that she actually has enough to lose to compete with even a superhero. This shall be interesting indeed, hehe.

Ah-ha! I got Cindy riled up and ready for the big race. Superbob's magical conniving works again! :tongue2:

Merry Christmas to all! :smile2::smile2::smile2:

Yes, SB, Cindy is riled up and ready!

Did the chimp just throw the gauntlet down?!

Merry Christmas friends! Let's all connive to have a great 2014.

Yep, this is a merry band of connivers and tall-tale-tellers here.:tongue2: Merry Christmas everyone!

Here's hoping that Duffey is starting to feel better.

Superbob had his first WW weigh-in this morning, and I guess I should keep specific results for the WW site -- but I will just say it is wonderful to see the tracking chart going downward -- significantly in first week, 'cause I had started piling on weight over Thanksgiving. I know the rate will slow down but I am determined to keep it going to where I need to be, and then to maintain it there.

Happy New Year! :smile2:
