Good morning, Throwdowners! I am starting this thread a day early, as is traditional, in consideration of folks around the globe who have (and we hope, will) join us here. The usual weigh-in day is Friday.

We have some folks vacationing, so our numbers may continue to be slow this week. Hope we on the home front will take up the slack with some informative and lively posts.

The default weigh-in day is Friday. But weigh in whenever you wish.

To guests reading this, we are just a group that formed here six or seven years ago (we need to research our history one of these days) to talk about our weight-losing and/or weight-maintaining efforts. "Throwdown" means we occasionally challenge each other with "races" to specific dates (such as July 4 or Thanksgiving) to see who can report the most progress. We do all this in fun, and are entirely supportive of each other. We laugh a lot, and commiserate when we need to do so. :biggrin2: No real butt-kicking, except in jest.

We would love to have you join us! There is no fee, or registration. Just jump right in. If you want to post your numbers at the end of each week, you can do so any way you wish -- some post their weights right down to the ounce, while others (like me) prefer usually to post just losses or gains. Or you can just join the talk about food, nutrition, fitness, life....

My personal concern this week (I will weigh tomorrow) is not so much weight as it is blood sugar. My DearWife (DW), bless her heart, made a peach cobbler the other day. My Daughter-in-Law (DIL) brought over half a cake she had had made for one of my grand kiddies' summer parties. Not blaming them -- neither one made me snack on these goodies day and night, but my blood sugar numbers have been alarming this week. If I don't get a grip, I will have to report to my doctor, who will go bonkers. I think he's maxed out on all the Type 2 meds, so the next step might be insulin. Don't want to go there. :eek2:

So I have extra motivation.

Hope all is going well for all Throwdowners and Friends of the Throwdown. As I said, some of our stalwarts are away partying (and no doubt eating sensibly) :tongue2: ... but we hope for extra input from our other regulars, and also for you visiting this thread, to join in with us! :D

This Throwdowner is still in town, but my status changes as of tomorrow morning.:wink2:

So . . . . time for a little last minute fussing. Superbob, quit messing around with the sugar!:D Maintain your motivation and don't drive your doctor bonkers!:eek2:

I've had a pretty good week. I'm down a half pound. It's not much, but it continues the downward trend. Since February, I've lost 11 pounds, 16 since early December.

See everyone in two weeks. :)

Last week: 149
This week: 148.5

Just noticed your new avatar, Superbob. Looking GOOD!

A compliment from gal who's slimmed down to fighting' trim -- now there's motivation! Congrats to you, Duffey, and have a safe and fun time. Thanks for checking in with us for this week.

And you're right about the sugar -- I deserve a butt kicking' about that. :eek2:

Hey SuperBob, nice thread this week ! You are a good Throwdowner VP.

Isn't it a shame that sugar is so dang tasty and so dang harmful to our health ? Oh well, a nibble here and there should be ok, but
having lots of sweets in the home is much too tempting. Hubby has asked me to not fill up the cookie jar because he can empty it in
2 days. So, when he comes home from work he has a little bowl with 3 cookies that I put out each day and he enjoys that with a cup
of tea before dinner. After dinner there is no "dessert" as such, he always eats an apple and another tea.
His evening snack is corn chips or granola cereal or another fruit.
Duffey:
we gonna need pics of your bathing suit body :)

Pix, yes -- 16 pounds down merits bathing suit pix, preferably bikini! ;) In the unlikely event Superbob ever lost the equivalent, he would gladly do a Speedo pose. :tongue2:

I'll weigh in tomorrow, if I remember to get on the scale.

Jet had a terrible trial last weekend. She was all stressed out and behaving like a patootie! "What do you mean, stop on the contacts???" "No, I like the tunnel better, I'm going THAT way." etc. etc. At one point, she was so frustrated and p.o.'d because I made her hold a contact that she jumped up, grabbed my shirt, and tore it. Good thing we'd already flunked that run, because THAT behavior is a disqualification if the judge sees it - like leaving the ring without your leash! No ribbons for us.

I'm counting weeks until vacation. While we are gone Jet will go to "summer camp" with friends and spend all day hunting and swimming, so maybe she'll be in a better mood when we return. She'll be in shape, and I'll be fat and out of shape!

Sounds like my confrontations with young yellow lab Dasher (nominally my son's but he's at home at our house, too) at the backdoor after we've played ball. Usually when I tell him to "drop it," he will drop the slobbery baseball before coming in. But once in a while, he's of a mind not to, and then we have a test of wills. :rolleyes2:

Hope both you and Jet have relaxing restful vacations, Laurie. Hard to imagine you coming back "fat," since you are one of our most on-target Throwdowners. But the good ol' Throwdown is always here....:D

Well, DW's birthday is coming up first of the week, and it wouldn't be right without getting her a big ol' cake. And she's already thinking about cooking a sugar-glazed coconut pound cake for Father's Day. I begged her to hold the glaze and she "probably" will. :eek2:

Superbob will have to limit himself (somehow) to teensy slices for celebration purposes. His continuing challenge.

Well, Superbob is up two-tenths of 1 pound as of this morning's stepping-up on the jumpy digital scales. I guess given the sugary temptations he has been facing, SB ought to be good to himself and call this holding the line/no gain for the week.

.2 lb? I'd take it. I'm up 2.3 from MONDAY. I find it difficult to believe I could eat much less than I do, or exercise much more - my goal is 4 miles per day (about 1 hr 10 minutes total) or the equivalent. I'm TIRED.
I'm giving up chocolate (all both ounces daily) and alcohol (the entire 5 ounces of wine with dinner) for the next month. I HAVE to get some of this weight off.

Well, sorry, Laurie -- but I'm confident you'll get in back in control. You're probably closer to your ideal weight than 99.99 percent of we Throwdowners. :thumb up:

Now, where are the others? Where is the Kentucky Flash -- is he growing complacent, given his huge lead in the Race to the Red, White, and Blue? He better beware -- the Man of Steel might get serious about this competition and fly right past him!

Meanwhile, we have tons of healthy veggies from the farmer's market for dinner, and (I swear) DW wants a McDonald's burger to go with it. :eek2: What's a poor superhero to do? :eek2:

Just struck me: With the Founding Father, er, Chimp away as well as the incomparable and fabled "Ref," the inmates are running the Throwdown asylum now. :biggrin2: So where are you, fellow inmates. Come out, come out, wherever you are.... don't be skewered of no Nurse Ratchet.....:p

Laurie, that would HAVE to be frustrating to try so hard and lose so slowly. It would be different if you weren't so consistent. Hopefully your new changes will yield the results you want.

SB, I have returned to the fold. Been very busy but I actually lost 2.4 pounds this week. Wow! I am surprised. I weighed 184.5 this morning, which is down 9.1 for the Race to RWB. Cindy hasn't been inclined to weigh this week...enough said.

We were going to go to a Farmer's Market this morning, but I hear the rumble of thunder so we'll go to the grocery instead. I think the thunder and accompanying lighting will put a damper on the pool party we are invited to this afternoon.

Wow, the Kentucky Flash has a lead in the race to the Fourth of July like Secretariat had in the Belmont Stakes, But maybe after winning big by losing much, he will be an easy target in the next race (which will be... to Labor Day, Turkey Day..or can we come up with something new?) .... Way to go, Flash! :smile2::thumbup:

The moving target is checking in...hehe. Cindy and I went to a cookout at some friends' house and of course we ate too much. I believe that we are recovering very well from that excursion though.

I hope SB and everyone is having a good start to the week. It will be rather hot here this week with highs in the low 90's. I like it a little cooler than that, but I'm not going to complain about it too much as long as I'm healthy and not in a mental hospital.

Cindy, drum roll, exercised this morning and expressed her desire for both of us to take up this practice. I am still trying to understand this concept. I will just go ahead and relent and will soon figure out what this word "exercise" means.

Bad list: DW made a strawberry pound cake for Superbob for Father's Day. Exactly what I didn't need, but I can't tell her that,:eek2:

Good list: she held the frosting and put it in fridge separately, making it optional. Superbob has had just a small slice without frosting; may need to secretly toss some of it in next few days without hurting DW's feelings.

Bad list: I take DW to a grand, huge bakery tomorrow to pick up her humongous birthday cake. While there, she normally buys doughnuts, eclairs, cookies, basically everything in sight that is freshly baked.

Good list: SB understands that he can't eat all this stuff or he will wind up in the hospital. One small slice of birthday cake with no-sugar-added Breyers on top will have to be it, for Superbob. :thumb up: DW will be relishing her cache of sugar goodies for a week.
