Happy Independence Day! We live in the greatest nation on earth; we are a blessed people!

I have managed to drop a few pounds this week. My weight seems to be bi-polar, up or down. It’s frustrating but I know that when I eat sensibly I lose weight and when I let myself go (days at a time) I gain. It really does not seem to make any difference what I eat, just how much. This week I have had two lunches of hamburgers and fries, sensible dinners including DW’s seasonal fruit cobblers and lost weight. I think I will just eat what I want, try and control portions and let the “chips” fall where they may.:biggrin2: I think it is also noteworthy that I have had no in between or after dinner snacks.

How has your week been? I really appreciate everyone’s weekly participation. I’m not sure why this thread seems to stay alive but it sure helps me stay in check. I shudder to think where I would be without the accountability that all of you provide.

Have a great 4th of July weekend and be safe!

I'm surprised at myself this time. I ate like a savage (that's what my mom said the pediatrician's note card said about me at age 18 mos.), worked like a dog, and still lost weight. We were doing a home project - having a tile floor installed in the laundry/utility rooms. We had to move all the assorted stuff out of each room while the tile guys came in and did the installation, then we had to put it all back in place. Lots of lifting. I also kept up my daily walks. But then, yesterday, for the 4th, my wife and I tried a new (to us) Bar-B-Que place in Chicago's Logan Square neighborhood. The place is called "Fat Willie's" and it is nothing to look at, but the food is the closest to Kansas City Que we have found in Chicago. I'm sure that didn't help my diet any at all.

But anyway, here's the status to-date:

Starting weight: 164.6
Last weigh-in: 158.2
Today's weight: 157.8
YTD: -6.8

As always, I am reluctant to call this a permanent loss as it could have been due to minor dehydration from all the lifting at home. I sweat a lot, and didn't drink an overly large amount. Time will tell.

Last night brought back memories. Although fireworks are quite illegal in Illinois, our neighborhood sounded like the "night fire" range at my army basic training camp. All sorts of aerial bombs, firecrackers and various noisemakers - until well after midnight. Oh, well, at least in our neighborhood it is only one night a year.
