Some of you may be offended, but the majority will not be, so I'm posting this for Christmas:

This is how it happened...I just finished the household chores
for the night and was preparing to go to bed, when I heard a
noise in the front of the house. I opened the door to the front
room and to my surprise, Santa himself stepped out from behind
the Christmas tree.

He placed his finger over his mouth so I would not cry out.

"What are you doing?" I started to ask. The words choked up in
my throat, and I saw he had tears in his eyes. His usual jolly
manner was gone. Gone was the eager, boisterous soul we all
know.

He then answered me with a simple statement.
"TEACH THE CHILDREN!"

I was puzzled; what did he mean? He anticipated my question,
and with one quick movement brought forth a miniature toy bag
from behind the tree. As I stood bewildered, Santa said,
"Teach the children! Teach them the old meaning of Christmas.
The meaning that now-a-days Christmas has forgotten."

Santa then reached in his bag and pulled out a FIR
TREE and placed it before the mantle.

"Teach the children that the pure green color of the stately
fir tree remains green all year round, depicting the
everlasting hope of mankind, all the needles point heavenward,
making it a symbol of man's thoughts turning toward heaven."

He again reached into his bag and pulled out a brilliant STAR.

"Teach the children that the star was the heavenly sign of
promises long ago. od promised a Savior for the world, and the
star was the sign of fulfillment of His promise."

He then reached into his bag and pulled out a CANDLE.

"Teach the children that the candle symbolizes that Christ is
the light of the world, and when we see this great light we are
reminded of He who displaces the darkness."

Once again he reached into his bag and removed a WREATH and
placed it on the tree.

"Teach the children that the wreath symbolizes the real nature
of love. Real love never ceases. Love is one continuous round
of affection."

He then pulled from his bag an ornament of himself.

"Teach the children that I, Santa Clause symbolize the
generosity and good will we feel during the month of December."

He then brought out a HOLLY LEAF.

"Teach the children that the holly plant represents
immortality. It represents the crown of thorns worn by our
Savior. The red holly represents the blood shed by Him."

Next he pulled from hs bag a GIFT and said,

"Teach the children that God so loved the world that HE gave
HIS begotten SON..." "Thanks be to God for his unspeakable
gift.

"Teach the children that the wise men bowed before the Holy
BABE and presented HIM with gold, frankincense and myrrh. We
should always give gifts in the same spirit of the wise men."

Santa then reached in his bag and pulled out a CANDY CANE and
hung it on the tree.

"Teach the children that the candy cane represents the
shepherds' crook. The crook on the staff helps to bring back
strayed sheep to the flock. The candy cane is the symbol that
we are our brother's keeper."

He reached in again and pulled out an ANGEL.

"Teach the children that it was the angels that heralded in the
glorious news of the Savior's birth. The angels sang 'Glory to
God in the highest, on earth peace and good will toward men."

Suddenly I heard a soft twinkling sound, and from his bag he
pulled out a BELL.

"Teach the children that as the lost sheep are found by the
sound of the bell, it should ring mankind to the fold. The bell
symbolizes guidance and return."

Santa looked back and was pleased. He looked back at me and I
saw that the twinkle was back in his eyes. He said,

"Remember, teach the children the true meaning of Christmas
and do not put me in the center, for I am but an humble servant
of the One that is,
and I bow down to worship HIM, our LORD,
our GOD."

Thanks for posting this, Ross.

Thanks for posting this, Ross.

I think it is beautiful. Just in case I don't get a chance to do this before the big day - I hope you have a wonderful Christmas, Ross, and a much better new year. Sending hugs and love.

You don't need to teach the children that Christmas is all about presents -- the bigger, the better -- for they'll figure that out all by themselves. And besides, millions are being spent to teach them about greed for more.

You may need to teach the children that it is better to give than to receive, since they might not think of that themselves. They will benefit greatly from your example and from experiencing it for themselves.

Teach them, if you insist, that Santa [God] is checking his list to see who's been naughty or nice and will then decide who to reward and who not. They can figure that out for themselves. If you want children to be nice in order to get a reward, you can teach them that.

But you will definitely have to teach the children that Christmas is about Jesus, the Baby born in the manger in little Bethlehem. You will definitely have to teach the children that Jesus is God and Man at the same time. You will definitely have to teach the children that Jesus came to live perfectly in their place and to die innocently in their place and to rise victoriously, for they'll never figure that out for themselves.

You will definitely have to teach the children that Jesus was born to die because we have been naughty, and even because there was naughtiness mixed in with our niceness. You will have to teach the children that "God justifies the wicked" (Romans 4:5), for that too they would never figure out for themselves. You will have to teach the children that all the presents we delight in are as nothing compared to God's gift of Himself into death for us.

I voted with the minority against political and religious discussions, but I'll go along with the will of the majority.

Ross...This is REALLY REALLY Nice!!!!!

Ross...This is REALLY REALLY Nice!!!!!

This is the one thing my mother always taught us, and I think it makes people better people if they just keep this in mind. Christmas for me is not about what I get...it's about the Christmas music that celebrates Jesus....it's about the lights that give you the simple pleasure of symbolizing the fact that he is still among us each and every day.....it's about the peace you feel for that one day a year when all trouble in the world seems to fade for that brief moment. Gosh, and I said I would never discuss religion or politics.....well, Christmas is the exception to the rule....anyway, thanks Ross for posting this...Harrybaby :D :D :D

Since my age 12 year old Grandson, starting when he was around age 5....I would let him choose a name off of a Xmas tree...placed by Salvation Army, ect. Then we would go and buy that child what they wanted for Xmas...Continued this, until this year..Then, we decided to purchase a large bag of dog/cat food to take to the local animal shelter.... ;) ;) He loved this idea..... :D :D :D He loves all God's creatures....reminds me to buy peanuts for the squirrels, fish food, birdseed, ect....Bonnie

Ross,

Ross,

I do believe you have found the Christmas spirit (and you told me it might not happen this year). ;)

Thanks for posting this beautiful piece.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!!

God bless us everyone!

It was quite a beautiful story. It is true that many have really forgotten the true meaning of Christmas. One year, I gave a friend some money for Christmas and her face lit up like a christmas tree. I did the same for another friend and it all felt good. The real meaning of Christmas, of giving of yourself to others without expecting any return except a smile and a tear or two. Thanks again Ross. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Ross...... I was waiting for the punch line - but you well and truly tricked me with this one!! :) What a truly lovely piece... and I don't think it you need to be religious to be able to appreciate the sentiment and meaning of it.

A : )

Ross

I got that in an e-mail last week and i am glad to see it posted here. Thanks

Beautiful, Ross!

This year Christmas has more meaning to me than any Christmas since Christmas of 1981, when I became a Christian and saw Christmas through whole new eyes. This year since I'm just 3 weeks post OHS I'm not going at my usual break-neck pace and have thoroughly enjoyed just being still and enjoying the miracle of Christmas. Old familiar carols take on a whole new meaning to me this year. Pieces such as the one you posted bring tears to my eyes.

The spirit of Christmas has enveloped me this year. I have so much to be thankful for, my new healthy heart being near the top of the list. I received the gift of health thanks to modern medical science, a superb surgeon, and a pig. I should live a much longer and healthier life. And I'm very, very thankful.

But God freely gives us all eternal life through the Greatest Gift of all time, His Son, Jesus Christ. We don't need to work for it, beg for it, pay for it or bargain for it. We simply need to accept it.

Merry Christmas to all the wonderful vr.com family. May your hearts be filled with happiness and joy and may you each experience the true miracle of Christmas this year.

God bless you,

Kay

This has been my feelings on Christmas for years now. It has become a commercialized joke with all of the original traditional meaning taken out. This garbage of correctness in America has gone way too far. Business cannot say Merry Christmas, it must be Happy Holidays for fear of upsetting the nonbeliever or the like. This country was founded on it's religious principles and now, shame on them all, the law makers are also turning away from them.
People say others have no right cramming their beliefs down others throats, well isn't that just exactly what is happening to most of us now? Aren't the beliefs of those who do not, now appear to be crammed down our throats?

I'm sorry, but when I see little ones that think Christmas is all about Santa and toys and nothing more, I tend to get a bit ticked. Guess it was the way I was brought up. I went to church on Christmas Eve every year and enjoyed very much the story of Christs birth and what Christmas was about.

It's so sad to see all of this getting kicked aside more and more as time goes by. Soon all of it will be just a memory and nothing more then another dollar in someones portfolio as they laugh on the way to the bank. :(
