Contribution vs. Commitment

But ... isn't "contribution" a way to show "commitment"?

Well that type of "committment" one can only give once,
I think it makes more sense to contribute over a long period of time,
and with this the contributer would be more committed than the committed

And don't forget that it may be said that contribution is merely a manner of involvement. Then we must consider the difference between involvement and commitment. Think of it like your bacon and eggs for breakfast -- The hen was involved. . . the pig was committed.

Cort, it sounds like some corporate "human resources" flack was tasked with presenting the canned thought of the day. Obviously you can make a contribution in some token way without having a real commitment to a cause. Beware the corporate objective to having organization men and women.

Am I committed? No, but I did just realize I had the same breakfast as Bonzo Dog -- oatmeal with raisins. Breakfast of superheroes?

I've read that quote before and liked it on the surface. But it is also specious, in the way the elements are defined for you, and if it is misapplied. It's actually the owners of the company who have the exposure and thus are entitled to enjoy the bacon as a result, so to speak. But when the time comes to trim the fat, sometimes the chickens are the ones who get prematurely plucked .

Sometimes don't we all hear a quote that reverberates for awhile, but then upon further inspection, loses it's impact? This seems to be one of those. Clever, but not that good.

When I saw your headline, I thought you were going to talk about monetary contributions to Hank's forum!! You know, should we set up a committment to contribute, or just contribute if and when we want/can

Both the chicken and pig were involved against their will. They now have to find another pig who will be equally "committed", while they will continue to take advantage of the chicken's "contribution". And I guess it could be said that the poor chicks that those eggs could have developed into were as committed as the pig. I think your boss is trying to find a valid reason for mass murder and robbery!

Perhaps we should commit to organizing a committee of historically contributing individuals who are willing to contribute time and effort to evaluating whether or not these forms of contribution and commitment are legal and/or valuable, and if so, which is more commendable - the ongoing efforts of the contributor or the one-time involvement of the committer - or if not, should it be considered a committable offense!

Yes, it reverberated for a while, but even the more I read it ... the more I wasn't sure how good it was.

And yet...sometimes...those type of quotes are the best ... because it makes you think initially ... then makes you think even more! Kinda like a brain teaser ... only more in depth . he he

Dina, You're almost right. I am a former teacher at heart. My last day in the classroom was February 22, 2008. I loved teaching, but it was causing me way too much stress. Now I negotiate hospital managed care contracts and laugh at the people who think that is a stressful job! I also doubled my income in a day.
