Hi all, I was thinking, my husband is going to have an aortic valve replacement pretty soon and most likely he is going to choose the mechanical valve. We only have one 3 year old little boy and want more children in the future. Do you think coumadin will be something to be concerned about?

Thank you,
Veronica

Not unless he is planning on being the pregnant one this time.

Seriously, there has never been anything to suggest that it has any effect on either men or women in this regard. The problem seems to be related to the dose the woman takes and only during weeks 6 to 12 of the pregnancy.

Hi Veronica,

As your husband will have, I do have a mech. valve too. Had
my surgery march -03. Sept -04 our second daughter was born
and she´s a very happy/healthy child. So do not worry about this
at all.

Just remember when he comes home from the hospital..he will not be able to rough/house with the 3 year old. :D Takes a good 6 weeks for the sternum to heal.....Bonnie

What about that 3 year old Madison with the picture of her riding her Big Wheel three days after surgery?

In fact, now that he's had the valve replaced and has a lot more energy, we expect it to happen fairly soon! He's frisky and doesn't get tired or out of breath! Yipeee!

*snickers*

He he he...I'm frisky, too.... Just don't have anyone to be frisky with....

*sighs*

Ah, well...time is my friend, right?

Grrr....

And, Veronica, he should have NO problems with that task ;).
