Computerized ACT?

I received this message from the lab at my clinic today.(I personally do not use them).
" On Monday December 15th 2008, the Clinical Pharmacy Anticoagulation Service will implement a new comprehensive, anticoagulation specific, computer aided dose monitoring system called Dawn AC. This new system will assist pharmacists in providing dose plans based on the downloaded INR. It uses established algorithms that have been shown to increase therapeutic INR control."
It will be interesting to see how this computer program works. It tells the pharmacist when to recall the patient and records all INR,dose, and other data to track the patient.

Love those computers!!! Only as good as the progammer and data the program is based on..... Would be interesting to see the algorithm.

Are you adjusting your own dosage, or do you leave it up to your doctor? (I know you're an MD, but some MDs delegate somethings to their own PCP.)
You could figure out your dosage change just as good as another MD.

I've seen the software, but as has been noted, it's only good if a person is putting correct data into it.

Yes, Marsha I adjust my own dosage. I also decide how often I test. This is fine with my doctor. Every now and then he gets an INR on me from the central lab and we have never had any unpleasant surprises. Alice is now on ACT but her doctors while allowing me to test her on the INRatio insist on managing the dose. I E-mail them and they call or E-mail back the prescribed dose and when to test again.

I'll follow up on this and also try to get a look at the algorithm.Our pharmacists do a good job and don't bother the doctors unless something is really out of whack.
