Hiya

I am flying from the UK to the USA in a few months (9 hour flight).

I am on warfarin and have a mechanical mitral valve which was done 8 years ago.

Do I need to wear compression stockings or not?

Many thanks in advance.

I would say yes, simply because it is a 9-hour flight. Also flex your feet while sitting to keep the blood circulating. A nurse from my insurance company recently explained to me that the blood vessels do not have muscles therefore it's important for me to move my legs while sitting at my desk to get the blood moving. My feet swell if I sit too long without doing so. Of course, check with your cardio for additional tip.

Where are you headed?

Hi

I'm 54 and since about 2012 I've used compression stockings when flying. I fly a bit from Australia to Finland (usually Aus -> Singapore, then Singapore to Helsinki) and on the +10 hour flights (especially followed by a +13 hour flight) it decreases swelling in my feet.

That's the only reason I use them ... comfort.

But the comfort is worth it.... the stockings are cheap
