Hi there......I don't know if you saw the story in today's news, but 82 year old Rodney Dangerfield had valve replacement surgery today. I wonder if we all get more respect now for going through the ordeal!

Some time ago, I saw him on television and his shirt was unbuttoned and he had a ghastly W-I-D-E scar from a previous heart surgery. It was such a scarey scar that I had a few nightmares last year before my surgery regarding what kind of scar I was going to get with the new valve. (My previous surgery went through the back and it was a ghastly-enough scar.)

I hope he sails successfully through this surgery and recovery. And I hope his surgeon gives him a tidy scar :) .

Rodney Dangerfield to have heart surgery
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Big News Network.com Wednesday 25th August, 2004

Comedian Rodney Dangerfield was admitted Tuesday to University of California at Los Angeles Medical Center for heart-valve replacement surgery.

The surgery will be performed by Dr. Hillel Laks. The 82-year-old Dangerfield was originally scheduled to undergo the valve job in May 2003, but the surgery was postponed to allow him to recuperate from a brain operation done in April 2003 to improve his body's blood flow, e!online reported.

In 1992, Dangerfield had surgery for an abdominal aortic aneurysm and in 2000, he had double-bypass heart surgery.

In 2001, he suffered a heart attack, but no surgery was required.

The star of Caddyshack, Easy Money Back to School and Little Nicky is expected to do well, according to Dangerfield's representative Kevin Sasaki.

Several of us have emailed Rodney a long time ago when the surgery was originally contemplated.

I just emailed him this morning to wish him well and to invite him and his family, anonymously of course, to join our group, or at least to peek in.

Good luck, Rodney.

Wouldn't that just be a hoot to have Rodney Dangerfield pop in on us once in awhile! He really should give us a try. The one thing he's sure to find here is respect!

Good luck to him!

I heard Rodney say that when he was first advised he needed valve surgery he asked for a second opinion. The doctor said OK you're ugly, too!

He has always been such a funny guy. I look forward to his take on valve surgery.

Boy, I can just hear his wisecracks about the types of valves, too -- such as porcine not being kosher for some people, vegans not wanting either a porcine or bovine, safecrackers getting a mechanical...

Hope he sails through his surgery. Tried to post an e-mail at his website, but my machine here @ work won't dredge up my Outlook. Will have to do it from home.

I really got a kick out his comment just prior to going in.
He said if all goes well I will be in the hospital about a week.
If not I will be there about an hour and a half.

I read that his surgery was completed "without a hitch" but I haven't heard anything about how his early recovery is going. I hope it is going well.

I hope he does visit this website. It would be fun for us but also it would be a great support group for him. And....we would give him respect!

He has a real gift for humor!
