Anybody have a problem with getting very cold? I have had several events where I literally freeze. It can be 75 degrees out and I have to have the heater in the car on. My female friends wha are going through the change are a little envious, but it doesn't seem right to me. Something I should bring up to my doctor, perhaps?

Thanks,

Will

I don't have a good answer but if it was me I would be calling the Dr. I know that since surgery and the coumadin I don't have the hot flashes. I would like to know what you find out.

Take care

Joe has had freezing spells from time to time. They are peculiar. He used to be absolutely drenched with sweat, but that was before getting his mitral fixed. He was a little cold last night while watching TV. There have been times in the winter when he's been out in the cold for a while when he gets so cold he shakes and shivers uncontollably, sometimes in the house too. He hasn't had one of those really bad ones for a long while. He tries to stay out of cold weather except briefly.

We used to think it was related to anticoagulation, but that's a guess.

It would be a good thing to run by your doctor. Have you taken your temp. when you're having one of those spells? That would be a good thing to know.

I'm always cold. I have to have a blanket to wrap up in the evening, because my husband is hot natured and gets a little agravated when I try to turn up the ac. (He comes behind me and pushes is back down.) We've decided my circulation isn't what it should be.

At night when I'm wrapped up in the down comfort and he has a sheet, I stick my feet over on his back. I know this is mean, but I get a good chuckle out of seeing him jump a foot in the air.

I'm planning on bringing a thermometer to work with me so I can do that. Guess if my core temperature is normal then it would have to the circulation.

Used to be one of the few disagreements my wife and I had was over the temp in the car. She was always too cold, and i was too warm, which made me drowsy. Now she is starting to get hot flashes, and I am cold. Can't win...

On the other hand, I'm still alive. Have to keep that in mind ...

OK, think I'll call the doctor in the AM. Got home and used the electronic in-the-ear type thermometer, didn't trust the reading. Got out the old mercury thermometer, and it too read 96 degrees, even after leaving it in for about 10 minutes.

Doesn't sound normal...

Are you sure you don't have an A/C unit blowing straight through your cranium? I would think you'd be showing some really strange symptoms with a body temp that low. I'd check again and if it's that low or lower, I think I'd be calling the Doc tonight yet.

Dr.'s office wants me to get a blood test for my thyroid when I have my warfarin level checked on Tuesday, and I go in to see the Dr. on 9-15. She is currently on vacation...

That sounds like a good idea getting your thyroid tested. I'm sorry you have to wait and I do hope you get to the root of this and start feeling top notch again.

Check your INR! At times when it's too high I am very cold. Even in the summer. Not an indicator for a high INR at all times. But it has happened a few times. Like you, my body temp seems to run lower than it should. When I feel chilled, check INR and temp. Usually equals elevated reading.

Keep us posted.

INR was actually a little low this week; 2.2 instead of 2.5. Having another episode right now, I took my temp and it wouldn't even get up to 96 on the thermometer. Doctor is out again, getting a start on the three day weekend, but no one has called regarding the message I left last week except to schedule an appointment in two weeks.

Just found out that the thyroid test they had me do was normal.

One of the ladies I work with had a heater under her desk; she's out today and the heater is now on my desk...

Ack!

Very interesting

Very interesting

I am always cold and I find that my normal temp is usually around 97.6 however the other day when I couldn't warm up my temp was 96.0! I have been on thyroid meds for many years now (75mcg of Levoxyl) and my labs from one month ago came in just fine.

I wonder what other causes could be of a low body temperature? Anyone know what causes this?

I also get cold sometimes. I have always associated it with the coumadin and high INR. I have never taken my temp though. Good idea! I have had many strange things happen with the coumadin. I have stinging prickly sensation in my skin sometimes when my coumadin level is high. I can have the cold and the stinging goin on at the same time. Quite strange. Thank heavens my husband is somewhat considerate. Especially in the winter or I would freeze. I think I burn him up sometimes.
