In the summer 2005 issue of "Heroes", the magazine of Chicago's Children's Memorial Hospital, a program, ParentWise (Parent Wisdom In Shared Experiences), is highlighted. This particular program is "for parents by parents" and "provides one-on-one emotional support to the primary caregivers of children with new diagnoses and/or undergoing treatment" for cancer.
This program is going to be the foundation/basis for other similar programs for those with other health issues...through CMH's new Palliative Care Program. I haven't had a chance to contact the hospital to see what all they plan to do ... and if, by chance, they might be interested in a "link" or "pen pal" possibilities with those of us here.....
