Hi all! Just got back from the hospital last night with my shiny new On-X 31/33 Mitral Valve. Turns out that I had a case of pneumonia that was just getting started going in, and so recovery took a little longer than it would have otherwise (8 days in hospital). Doc managed to keep my incision pretty small, so even though I had a sternotomy, it's only a ~5" cut. I had the surgery done by Dr. Jeevanandam at the University of Chicago Medical Center, and he closed me with titanium plates instead of wire, and so far everything seems very strong and stable. All I can say is that it's good to be home, and taking a shower last night was one of the best things I've done in a very long time
Oh, and my doc only wanted to anticoagulate me to an INR of 2.0-2.5 with this valve, but at my request broadened the range to 2.0-3.0, to make management a little easier.
