My phone rang tonight...it was a classmate from high school..He was up-dating addresses for our 50th YIKES high school reunion.. I said, Jim, I'm not that old :D :D He said it would be in 2008...June and he was getting started early...He is my Dad's postman..One of the few who stayed in Selma, Alabama... Most of the girls married airmen (Craig Air Force Base) now closed for many years...and the boys that went away to college..never came back. I left at the tender age of 20..to become a stewardess for Delta Airlines... I always got an invite for 5th, 10th, ect..but never went....It was always in June..and I had planned trips from my children..as soon as school let out.......Disneyworld, California, ect....... From what I received from post-reunion updates, pictures, ect....Only the locals attended.....He had to tell me of 2 classmates that had passed. :( :( One from a heart attack and 1 from cancer..So depressing..to know, I'm in that age group.  .......My question is..do yall attend your high school reunions.... 3 years is a long time. If my Dad is still alive..I will plan to go..If not :( All my ties to Selma will be gone.....He said, he had 2 stents put in..I just feel..nothing is the same anymore...The town has dried up.. Nothing like when I lived there. in the 40's and 50's...He is the only one I ever see(being Dad's postman) when I go home to visit Dad.......Bonnie

That is so neat, Bonnie. You should go. My class of 1950 was a huge one with hundreds graduating. Our school has a reunion in Miami every year, with ALL classes from the beginning of time attending, with emphasis on one class for that year. They re-visit our high school, our gymnasium (where the sock hops were held), and Miami, in general. My class has been having its own reunion, without the others, for several years now; we have names/address/email addresses for as many as we can get. We have a site of our own where we go to post news, jokes, information to each other. Some of us private mail each other. I have regular contact with a "kid" I have known from 6th grade. He became an attorney, later a judge. One of us became a ob/gyn, founded the largest ob hospital that Atlanta has. I have found a political co-hort from back then, too. I was a telephoner recently and called one 'girl' and said 'this is a voice out of your past'. She knew immediately who I was when I told her and we caught up on all those years - she was one of my buds. Our next reunion is next summer in Orlando and I plan to attend that one, my first, and look forward with great pleasure of re-meeting all those 'kids' I can't remember anymore. Go, you won't be disappointed.

Someone made a computer disk of our annual for those who had lost theirs somewhere back yonder. Mine has begun to fall apart so I have been using the disk in the computer. In looking at the pictures of us, I couldn't even remember those faces, but given time and re-looks, I recalled more of of them than I thought I would.

Some of us have died. We remember those every year and keep a memory page for them.

Nostalgia........

Definitely do not miss it. My 35th is in 2006 and I still retain fond memories of the 20th in '91. There's something about high school reunions that allow us to maintain a link to our youth. Besides, it's a great motivator to attempt to erase 30 years of living in the final six months before the reunion!

YIKES!!!! YOU All Just Reminded Me.....

YIKES!!!! YOU All Just Reminded Me.....

Yall just reminded me that my 20th reunion is coming up in 7 months (1985)!!!    And I definitely do not plan to attend. I figure with all the bad memories and feelings I had in high school after being taunted by all the student body, somethings, such as my HS reunion should be left in the past...in my case only of course...all of you guys...Eat, Drink And Be Merry!!!!! Party Down!!! and All that crazy stuff...In Short...HAVE A GREAT TIME!!!! :D :D :D :D :D Harrybaby666

Bonnie,

If you have a way to do it, I would go. I am getting close to what will be my 40th reunion, if we have one, and will definitely attend. We had a 25th, with the big banquet and all, and it was a great chance to re-connect with a lot of people who meant so much to us in the past. There was talk of a 30th and other events, but they never got off the ground. As time goes on, there will be fewer of us, and I wouldn't miss the chance to see them one more time. Being local helps, though, as I've always been a Chicagoan. . .

Go girl go!! My fifty- fifth will be held next September. We are having a reunion every year since there are so few of the class left (two-thirds are gone. Sierra Bob

Haven't been to one yet and don't plan on ever going to one either. My name and number is in the book, if someone wants to get ahold of me they can. No one has tried in nearly 25 years so that pretty much tells me what I want to know.

In the last few years, I've been contacted by several people from my old high school in CT. I've not been to any of the reunions, but keep telling myself I will eventually. My 35th should be coming up in 2005, if anyone up there is thinking about having one.

Best wishes,

Hi Bon

Haven't been around much---just got back from vacation in Fla, GA, and VA...three weeks on the road almost. Was in your neck of the woods in Perry for the Springer Spaniel National---was at the ag center. We stayed there and showed dogs and partied all week with people we haven't seen in a year.....had a great time and Tyce's INR was 2.3 when we got home and tested. My little Leggie girl got her CDX title in obedience and we watched lots of nice springers in breed. People in Fla. thought we were nuts to have 4 dogs in a motor home, but the dog people understood it completely. Anyway, we're winterized and emptying out for the winter. Hope to be back in Perry in March, though, for a motor home rally---it's really a great spot. They said the average rally in Ga has about 6,000 motor homes....wow, that's alot.

Anyway, to your question of the reunion. I've never been to one and haven't missed it a bit. Haven't stayed in touch with most of the people I went to high school with, nor they with me, so I don't see any reason to go back after 50 years....IMHO.

Be well and let us know what you decide.

Evelyn

They didn't have much use for me then, and I haven't seen them since. Therefore, they're pretty much no different than any other group of 350 strangers. I even reached out to my old best buddies about 10 years ago, and they seemed indifferent and not interested in getting together with me or each other.

Turn the page.....

Like I said, in 1958..Selma was booming with Craig Air Force Base... Just about every girl in Selma had the chance to meet and marry an airman... Then leave shortly..they went all over the world...Read some of their bio's from our 25th reunion. I always wrote a bio and mailed in too. then they would make a booklet and mail to you. The boys went to U of Alabama or Auburn .Never came back to Selma...One is a professor at Brenau Women's College in Gainesville ( My daughter went there..and he and I joked about Selma... He finally went to one..and told my daughter to tell her Mom (Me)..You can never go home again :D Said, it was sad to go and see our high school.. After the Selma March in 1965..Things changed big time...Craig Air Force Base closed.. Now, the entire town is in ruins...No industry will come in..so no jobs... It's a joke that the best thing that Selma has is Highway 80 leaving Selma. :D Daddy's subdivison is one of the last nice ones left. People still take pride in their yards... 3 1/2 years is a long time for the 50th reunion.... If daddy is still alive..it may be just me and Daddy's postman ( the guy that called me) :p Bonnie
