Hello, I'm 23 years old ( married ) and i just found out that I'm pregnant i had two surgeries in the past and I'm gonna need a third one in the future, and I want to know if the pregnancy would have any health risks ? my doctor here In Kuwait said it would be ok to get pregnant i may experiences some difficultly during the pregnancy but that's normal but my parents still very worried and they are not sure if i could handle it
here is my heart condition:
-CONGNTAL HEART DISEASE
-SUBAORTIC STENOSIS
-POST STATUS TWO CARIAC SURGERIES TO RELIEVE LEFT VENTRICULAR OUTFLOW TRACT
-SEVERE AORTIC REGURGITATION AND MILD AORTIC STENOSIS
-BORDERLINE LEFT VENTRICULAR FUNCTION ( IMPAIRED IN VIEW OF SEVERE AORTIC REGURITATION )
-VENTRICUALR ECTOPICS - SINGLE COUPLET AND TRIPPLET

You should be followed very closely by your doctor. Yours would be a "high risk" pregnancy here in the states. You might want to find the forum for congenital heart defects, and post there. You are very special, and no two people with CHD are alike, from what I hear tell.

However, IMHO, with the severe aortic regurgitation, I'd think you might want to have the valve replaced (with tissue, not mechanical) before risking pregnancy, particularly in light of your impaired LV function. That's usually a trigger for aortic valve replacement even without the possibility of pregnancy. The excess fluid arising from pregnancy would place an even greater burden on your heart.
If you have not seen a specialist, you should. Of course, since you are already pregnant, that cat's already out of the bag, isn't it? I know they can do valve replacement surgery on a pregnant woman, if need be. There was one young lady in the hospital when I had my last valve done, though her surgery was quite risky.

thanks

thanks

The doctors here in Kuwait told me that i'll be at low to moderate risk, and they said i may not need the surgery until after the pregnancy because i would be able after that to replace my valve with the mechanic valve which leaves longer, your reply made me doubt what they told me!

Well, I'm not a doctor. I went with mechanical because it lasts longer and minimizes additional surgeries. And I was past child-bearing. But if you want more children, a tissue valve is a better choice until after you are done having your family, although it means a replacement with another tissue, or a mechanical later down the road.
Your doctors know you best, but with congenital heart disease, severe regurgitation and compromised ventricular function, I expect pregnancy will place an additional burden on the heart.
If you were not already pregnant, and were considering getting pregnant, I'd advise talking to your doctor about doing the replacement of the aortic valve before pregnancy. That's not possible now. So all they can do is watch you closely, and you have to realize you may develop problems which may require surgery during the pregnancy.

In addition to your cardiologist, have you consulted a high risk Obstetrician?
It is likely you should be followed extremely closely by a doctor accustomed to high risk pregnancies with issues such as you seem to present with.

We have definitely heard of successful pregnancies but you should have the finest OB and cardiologist experienced in dealing with cases such as yours.

Congratulations on your pregnancy and all best wishes.

Interestingly I was just reading about this at lunch today! Here's the link:
http://www.ranzcog.edu.au/publicati...ine-editions/685-vol-15-no-1-autumn-2013.html

Download the issue, then the article about heart disease and pregnancy is on page 30.

Overall the message is as was said above - pregnancy in your case is very high-risk and any doctor who says it's not is IMHO smoking crack. (Not that I'm familiar with your case at all, and I'm not a doctor, but when the risk you face with him being wrong is as serious as death, don't mess around - get another opinion.)

thanks very much I'll try my best to follow your advice... i think my dad is going to send me to the US TO get a second opinion as I did my surgeries in the U.S as well
