Hi
My husband is scheduled to meet with Dr Isom from Columbia in NYC next week. Has anybody heard anything about him or the Weill Medical Center at Cornell (now part of Columbia Pres.)? Hubby is 65 with aortic stenosis.

Thanks,
Cary

I had my last surgery in 2001 at Cornell and was very impressed, particularly with the nursing staff. I plan to have my next one there as well, when the time comes. For what it's worth, this U.S. News ranking puts it in the top 10 nationwide and best among those in the NYC area for "Heart & Heart Surgery":

Regarding Isom, he is supposed to be one of the best. He did not do my surgery so I can't personally vouch for him but do a search in the forums for "Isom". There is an article somewhere that when Pres. Clinton had his heart surgery, he wanted Isom to do it but Isom declined (he had a tee time out in the Hamptons to make.....)

Hi there

Hi there

Cary:
I don't know Dr. Isom, but I had my surgery with Dr. Mehmet Oz from Columbia Pres., he's the director of cardiothoracic surgery. Very, very good. Their heart surgery dept. is top notch, so I'm sure you guys will be in good hands there. Keep us updated on the prognosis and surgery date.
Best wishes, stay positive.
Dawn

Thanks for your support and information. I'm also wondering if anyone has information on minimally invasive surgery for aortic valve relacement?
Thanks again,
Cary
