Chloe has a slight chest infection at the moment but is completely fine in herself - just sounds like a 70 year old smoker when she coughs, bless her.
Tonight, I'd just got her out of the shower, dried her and got her in bed and started to tickle her. As she laid back laughing, all around her mouth (but not her lips or tongue) went a blue colour. She's not done this before.

Common sense tells me it must be combination of coming out of shower, being a bit chilly and laughing so hard with the cough she has. Does this sound right or should I get her checked do you think?? She doesnt have a condition generally associated with going blue so not seen much of it before although she has in the past had a tendency to have a blue tinge around her lips when cold.

A slightly worried

Emma,
I asked my husband what he thought. He works in respiratory care and manages most of the ventilators/breathing conditions in the Intensive Care Unit. He said without a doubt he would have Chloe seen by the doctor. He wouldn't venture a guess as to what is causing the blue color, but said the change is enough to warrant a visit.
I would have Chloe checked.

Emma,
I agree with Mary. There's nothing to be lost by getting this checked out. I used to get blue extremities - lips and fingernails, and this is down to poor ciculation, but would not like to second guess a professional opinion by Chloe's gp.

Take care and all the best

Lotti:)

Yes, you should call the doctor about it. Joe has PH along with his heart problems, and his lips and nails can get a blue tinge. It hasn't happened lately, but it has in the past many times, especially when he's cold.

I just have to mention this because it's so darned funny.

One day, Joe's lips were terribly blue. It scared me half out of my mind. I was about ready to cart him off to he ER. It turned out that he had eaten some blue coated M&Ms, and the dye stained his lips.:p

I vote with the others. Get it checked. My brain is letting me down, but some other mom-member posted not too long ago about their child having a blue mouth. I'll let you know if it comes to mind, or maybe someone else knows too.

Hows it going Emma, sure hope it was nothing serious, hope Chloe feels better soon, let us know Paula x

Thankyou for all your concerns. As this is not a symptom of Chloes particular condition, her doctors werent worried and I spoke with many other heart mums last night, all of whom have experienced this before too - with their healthy heart children too!

Chloe is fine today - cough is starting to sound drier now and her teacher tells me she only heard it once. By the way I saw her charging around at lunchtime and playtime too, I think she's pretty much ok. She also took part in her street dance lunchtime club thing and was bobbing all over the place, cheering and punching the air??! - but no blue mouth! So I think the cold mustve been the culprit last night.

Have to admit I had an experimental tickle this morning when she woke up and was all warm and no blue mouth then either - just an over excited child who then thought we were playing rather than getting ready for school!!

Thankyou for all the help with this while I did my paranoid mummy bit!

And Ross!! You wish honey!! :p

Glad to hear it's a "no biggie" (no big deal). My brain still hasn't coughed up the previous posts I was trying to remember, but I do recall that the other Mom found out it wasn't a concern either. I didn't want to say that until you spoke with the doctor.

Kids - it's not like they don't give us enough real things to worry about, and then they have to throw in strange things like blue mouths.:)

Glad to hear Chloe is feeling better.
