Thought some of you might be interested in this...

WOO HOO!
Despite HIGH gas prices and NO trophies/awards (Steak'n'Shake DID give coupons for food) ... over 60 people met in Elgin IL, Saturday, July 26, 2008, for a multi-group/board afternoon event in NE Illinois!
Since mid 2003, I have posted...
...cruise nights...
...a "road trip" route across northern IL...
...gatherings at Volo Auto Museum in Volo IL...
...and misc other activity/gathering ideas...
...in an attempt to rally people in this area to get together. At most, about 5 people have attended one of these previously.
That attendance number was SHATTERED this past weekend ... about 12 times more people attended the "07/26/08 Chitown Gathering", which was about double the number of people I was expecting, even though over 90 people had noted interest in joining us for at least a portion of the day.
And...for the FIRST time...ALL of my Monte Carlos were at a gathering at the SAME TIME!

And, most importantly, of course, THANK YOU to EVERYONE who attended...INCLUDING the kids. Without you all ... this would not have been a HUGE SUCCESS.
NEXT TIME?
People have already asked me when the next event is going to be, some suggesting that this be an annual gathering...or schedule gatherings twice during the year. We shall see.
Do you think we should go ahead and mark the last weekend of July 2009 for our next annual gathering? Interested in something later this fall, too?
LOCATION POSSIBILITY:
During the gathering, I was approached by another restaurant owner asking how often we get together. I told him that this was our first one of its kind...a bunch of different message board/group members gathering. He gave me his name and number...and wants me to call him when we have another one planned. Hmmm.....
TOTALS:
65 people (including kids, but not including the spectators/Steak'n'Shake diners that stopped to visit and look at all of the cars)
15 of 22 different message boards/groups were represented (including 2 of which I'm not a member, but had heard about the meet from others).
