I read the 2005 Annual Report of Chicago's Children's Memorial Hospital ... yes, all of it. I tend to think of Annual Reports as long, dull and boring. But, this one was rather enlightening.

I learned a lot about the hospital where all of my surgeries have occurred ... more than I ever would have imagined, including the fact that CMH has a partnership with Elgin's Provena St Joseph Hospital! How cool is that?!?

Sounds intresting Cort. Where did you get it and what other intresting things did you learn? You know they are moving don't you? Of course not until around 2011 or so. LOL! You piqued my intrest now and I want to hear the scoop. :D

Wendy,

CMH sent me the Annual Report, I believe, because I donated to them in 2005.

Yep, I know they are moving ... not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Yes, the new facility will be much more usefull (and bigger, from what I understand), but that move affects other things, too, like the Ronald McDonald House a few blocks away....

Ironically, Elgin's Sherman Hospital is in the midst of trying to get a motion passed for them to move to the west side of town ... at the corner of Randall and Big Timber Roads, just north of Provena St Joe....

As for other stuff, well, that'd be too much to list. I wonder if you called CMH if they'd send you a copy ... after all, Annual Reports are, as far as I know, for the public.....

I had thought about the Ronald McDonald house as well but I am sure they can sell the present building at a nice profit. They really need more rooms so that would be awesome if they build something bigger near the new location. Although the building IS beautiful I really loved it there, though I only got to stay over night once while we were there.

Randy stayed there and the boys, and when Andrew was a bit more stable,I loved walking over there to grab a bite or do laundry or veg. The showers there were such a nicety after using the parent showers at the hospital.

Suppose I could get a copy. Was much of it boring? Of course! Right?

Wendy,

I agree ... Ronald McDonald House needs more rooms. I remember even when we used to stay there (20 years ago or so now) it felt so "cramped".... So, I hope RMH is able to sell the place they have now ... and buy or build a house near the hospital. Heck, it'd be nice if the hospital would leave some room/land for RMH....

*chuckles*

I remember I was sssooo excited when they added the "garageish" parking at the rear of the house. From that visit on, I pressed Mom and Dad to get into Chicago earlier than normal ... just so we could make sure to park the car under that garage ... instead of in the street ;).

Well, yes, much of it was boring ... but, then again, even the boring parts were kind of interesting ... he heh.
